It’s what officials had feared. There are more homeless on San Diego County streets.

The Regional Task Force on Homeless conducted it’s annual count early Friday morning. A preliminary report indicates two main groups are showing signs of an increase of roaming the streets. More families and more military veterans are having a tough time finding housing.

Rachel Weil is with the Task Force and estimates when the count is finished there will be more than 10,000 people in the San Diego County on any given day who are without permanent housing.

The data gathered will be used for critical federal and state grant applications. The count also assists the Housing and Urban Development program. The statistics are part of the process in receiving federal funding for that program.
