Friday MorningPrayer:)… June 13,2019

June 13, 2019 - 8 minutes read

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.[1]

 “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.  Amen.”[2]

How great Thou art!  Then sings my soul!  Holy, Holy, Holy, is a moving hymn with lyrics that do reflect our mighty God!  Lyrics do describe to a degree, and many more hymn lyrics describe even more the greatness, might, and power of our gracious God!  God’s glory and majesty are far beyond our humanness, yet to the utmost degree possible, the regenerate heart, the saints of old and in the present day have developed lyrics, made music, and we all are given abundant grace to sing never-ending praise to the only Eternal One!    “For the joy of ear and eye, For the heart and mind’s delight, For the mystic harmony Linking sense to sound and sight. Lord of all, to Thee we raise, This our hymn of grateful praise.”[3]

I sincerely pray, for you who believe, Jesus is more and more precious as you (and me too), grow in grace, even linking sense to sound and experiencing the power of God in every context of our redeemed lives.  In awe, I meditate and wrestle with the reality of “…you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”[4]  Wow!  Moreover, “For God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”[5]  This is truly Amazing Grace!

We do not lose heart!  Outwardly we are wasting away, especially as the years pass, sickness persists, the burdens and challenges of this life continue; nonetheless, by God’s abundant grace, his love, faithfulness and in his strength, we are inwardly being renewed day by day.[6] Beloved, be ye encouraged!  Indeed, “we have ‘this treasure’ in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”[7]  Many times over through-out this life we are: hard pressed on every side, perplexed, persecuted, (rejected, mocked, frowned upon) or even struck down in some hurtful form or another.  However, through God’s mercy we hold fast, trust our gracious God in Christ and we are: not crushed, not in despair, never abandoned or destroyed.[8]    On Christ the solid Rock we stand!

Joyfully we sing … “Great is Thy faithfulness!  Great is Thy faithfulness!  Every morning new mercies [we] see.  All [we] have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto Me!”[9]  Moreover, ten thousand times over!

Frail as summer’s flow’r we flourish,
Blows the wind and it is gone;
But while mortals rise and perish,
Our God lives unchanging on.
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia!
Praise the high Eternal One![10]

The apostle John in writing to genuine believers, “…you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.”[11]  We are owned by God; a seal of ownership through the indwelling Holy Spirit.  Jesus said, “if you love me, you will obey what I command.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.”[12] It is exciting and renewing as we contemplate the fact that God indwells believers!  “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”[13]

Therefore, God takes pleasure and glorifies himself in and through us, especially as we are compelled by his glorious and powerful presence to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.  Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.[14]  Reflect the words of the Psalmist, “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.  Awake, my soul!  Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.”[15] ”Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness; Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!”[16]

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
