Friday Morning Prayer:)… September 27, 2018

September 27, 2018 - 8 minutes read
Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne;
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.

Living for Jesus Who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.[1]

“And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good word, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”[2]

Living for Jesus is synonymous with living in the Spirit.   I desire to live a life that is true, daily encountering our gracious God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, so do you.  A genuine life in Christ strives to please God and daily yields allegiance to Thee.  God in his great mercy redeemed my life; he softened my hardened heart, opened my spiritually blind eyes and bestowed the gift of salvation through the blood of the Lamb.  Every genuine regenerate heart proclaims this life-transforming gospel truth.  Moreover, we worship God in spirit and truth by the might of God’s own manifested nature in and through us.  Our Lord Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory and has promised to reside with us and strengthen us with all power according to his glorious might.   This is the truth of the gospel that continually helps us to live a life worthy of our God and please him in every way.

Be ye encouraged to press on to know our gracious God in Christ.  “God is calling us forward to a deeper presence-communion with Himself.”[3]  To grow in our knowledge of God and experience his supernatural presence is an ever-increasing desire.  We pray, God “help me” to live a life worthy.  This is “commensurate with what the Lord has done for us and is to us.  It may also suggest acting in conformity with our union with Christ and with his purpose for our lives.”[4]  I know as I pursue God he makes his presence known.  Bearing fruit: loving others, being kind, and demonstrating patience and endurance, our call to a life of continual fruitfulness is the reality of God working in divine relationship with us.

A precious brother commented last week about his struggle to be mindful of the spiritual realm and how easily it is to get continually caught up in the physical realities of our busy lives.  I struggle too!  I pray for a constant awareness of God, and the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Beloved, “being strengthened with all power” is a life pleasing to God.  As much as we endure and fight to overcome physical struggles, we are engaged in moral conflict with the cosmic powers of a darkened world.  “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”[5]

I pray you are experiencing this life in Christ with joy-overflowing and continuous thanksgiving, even as you endure the hardships.  Last night’s mid-week Bible study we came together as family.  A sister was going through the hardships of this life.  We are not immune to the pain of loss, the tragedy of suddenly losing a loved one, depression, anxiety, overwhelming heartache.  Thank you, Father, we do not have to endure this life alone.  We mourn with those who mourn, and we rejoice with those who rejoice.  Crying out to God is our habitual and meaningful faith response to every life encounter, good or bad, joyful or sad.  You do not have to win this battle alone!  God has designed us for one another and has given us his Spirit to be other-oriented and full of love and compassion, especially for those carrying heavy burdens inherent in this life.   We are here for a season to grow in grace and genuinely experience our God who has “qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”

Living for Jesus, wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy Name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.

Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.
