Friday Morning Prayer:)… September 20, 2018
September 20, 2018 - 6 minutes readI am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.[1]
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.[1]
“May the God of peace… equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”[2]

“I just want to hear the Lord like that…” A brother in Jesus shared with me how a sister was praying and God directed her to help his family with a financial gift. My brother was very thankful and in desperate need of the specific amount she gave. However, with tears, he did not emphasize the gift as much as the sister in Christ having the spiritual ears to hear such a specific leading by the Spirit of our gracious God. I want to hear the Lord like that too! As I pray, am I listening? Do I believe God will direct me to comfort others and help me discern his leading to demonstrate his love, help someone in need, or even humbly serve to the glory of Jesus? “We are just as spiritual as we are physical, and as we genuinely believe this, you’ll live this out.”[3]
Be ye encouraged in knowing that any and all of our efforts to do what is pleasing to God is the work of almighty God indwelling. God, in his great mercy, initiated and sustains a supernatural love in my heart, and yours too. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you…. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees…”[4] Hide in Christ daily! We acknowledge and hold fast to the words of Jesus, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”[5] Piper said, “The new birth is the coming into our life of the Holy Spirit to create a whole new array of desires and loves and yearnings and longings.”[6]
God is Spirit and we worship in spirit and in truth.[7] I pray for God’s indwelling power to enable me and you, to pay much less attention to the physical, and to be continually mindful of the spiritual, which is constantly active in our daily life with Christ. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”[8] Beloved, fight the good fight of faith! “…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”[9]
How do I be in constant step with the Holy Spirit, and acutely mindful of the spiritual realm? Pastor Mark highlighted express love for God by: study scripture, pray without ceasing, serve and love God’s people. “Our gracious God has given life, we joyfully give back.”[10] John Piper gives us five practical pursuits as well: acknowledge, pray, trust, act, and give thanks.[11]
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
