Friday Morning Prayer:)… September 13, 2018
September 13, 2018 - 4 minutes readSoftly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.
Come home, come home,
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!
Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?[1]
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?[1]
“By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me− a prayer to the God of my life.”[2]

Oh the necessity of communion with God. Those difficult days when circumstances tend to overwhelm and/or there is a high degree of interpersonal emotion with no satisfactory resolution. An accumulation of those heavy days reminds me of the necessity to pursue communion with our gracious God. The Psalmist models the pursuit as his heart is overwhelmed by unpredictable life events. “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?”[3] Like the Psalmist, we put our hope in God and praise him as Savior and Lord. He abides with us and calls us to cast all our cares on him.
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night…”[4] As the Psalmist remembered his joy in going with the multitude and leading the procession to the house of God, In a similar way, I experienced that supernatural sense of relief as family in Christ joined with overflowing love, joy, and thanksgiving at mid-week Bible study. I pray you too have a meaningful refuge where genuine believers gather to love God and one another.
The necessity of communion with God is confirmed over and over again as we experience his supernatural presence in the fellowship of the saints. So often, fellowship and meaningful connection is hindered by doubts, fears, and insecurities. Our enemy the Devil wants to destroy communion with God and fellowship with one another. No! Beloved, fight the good fight and overcome! Communion with God is God’s call to us and our joyful response to him; O the longing to enjoy supernatural fellowship with our Maker. Moreover, we are designed to live and love in relationship with one another through the power of our indwelling God.
I pray you are living out the purpose of your existence: to love God and one another.
Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.
Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.
