Friday Morning Prayer:)… October 24, 2019

October 24, 2019 - 7 minutes read

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the name! I’m fixed upon it
Name of Thy redeeming love

Hitherto Thy love has blessed me
Thou hast brought me to this place
And I know Thy hand will bring me
Safely home by Thy good grace
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Oh to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, oh take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above[1]

“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”[2]

What matters most?  I had the privilege of meeting with a fella yesterday who reflected the glory of God!  With joy and absoluteness, he said, “I am on the narrow road, I am different, people tell me I’m different.  It is not just how I look outwardly, but how I talk, listen, and show patience.  I give to others, help those without.  I care about people.”  We shared and encouraged one another oblivious to the clock.  My heart was so filled with love and excitement for this growing brother.  He expressed genuine enthusiasm about what he is reading in the Bible: the life of Job, the parables of Jesus, forgiveness for sin and his new life in Christ.  We talked about our triune God, Holy Spirit power to live this life in step with God.  In contrast to the culture and evil ways, we are set-apart, sanctified, and being made holy as we pursue love, joy, peace, patience, kindness as God works in and through us!  From darkness to light, a regenerate heart understanding and experiencing the redeeming power of the gospel is what matters most.

A constant theme and supernatural reality for every genuinely regenerate heart is a changed life.  Paul highlights, “I ‘became’ a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power.”[3] You, me, and all who believe are transformed from an enemy into a friend of Christ according to sovereign grace, an act of divine omnipotence.  Now, today, and every day we have breath, we encourage, share the gospel, pray unceasingly, O gracious God have mercy on the depraved wayward soul!  We persevere, pursuing God as he pursues us and our lives reflect God’s power at work through the church, the body of Christ.

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.”[4]  We have been given this message of reconciliation!  We are Christ’s ambassadors as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore others, the lost, those spiritually dead, now darkness needing to become light in the Lord “…on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”[5]  O man! “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”[6]

“By our meekness and gentleness,
by our fidelity and prudence,
by our self-denial and benevolence,
by our temperance and brotherly kindness,
by our patience and fervent love —
we ought to adorn the most holy truth of God!

God calls for it. The Gospel is calculated to produce it.

We should be zealous to spread it. It is too good to be kept to ourselves.”[7]

I truly pray for you to absolutely know, long for, and experience this ‘goodness’ all the time and are compelled by the Spirit to overflow as you love others in every context.

Oh that day when freed from sinning
I shall see Thy lovely face
Full arrayed in blood-washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry
Bring Thy promises to pass
For I know Thy pow’r will keep me
Till I’m home with Thee at last

Sisters are meeting to pray.  First Baptist, 1912 Arnold Way, Alpine, 0900

You are invited to join our sisters in Jesus for a time of prayer and fellowship.  Gals representing different churches gather to encourage one another and pray.  This is a much-valued and essential meeting time together.  Thank you for your help through prayer.  As the Spirit leads go enjoy.

Brothers are meeting too!  Alpine Youth Center, 2153 Arnold Way, Alpine, 0730

How cool when diverse brothers meet to encourage one another and glorify God with our lives.  You are invited.  Brother Mark reminded me this week of the value of prayer.  Our significant pursuit, an essential discipline, a truly supernatural process as we rely on the Holy Spirit, surrender all and trust our sovereign God to help us through the prayers of many.   Join us of your schedule allows.
