Friday Morning Prayer:)… October 18, 2018
October 18, 2018 - 7 minutes readO Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze[1]
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze[1]
“But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”[2]

Oh, the joy of blessed assurance that Jesus is mine. “How great thou art! How great thou art! When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation and take me home, what joy will fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, My God, how great thou art! How do we know ‘Jesus is mine’ and heaven is my ultimate home? Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”[3] Moreover, we read in John, “For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.”[4] We know because we are born again, born of the Spirit, initiated and sustained by our gracious God.
Through the Holy Spirit, God in Christ is able to speak to each of us at all times and in all places. Every regenerate heart surrendered is empowered to reveal Jesus more perfectly to and through those who represent him. The Spirit, Counselor, Helper, the third Person of the Trinity brings glory to Jesus. “He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.”[5] One commentator said, “The Spirit interprets and applies the character and teaching of Jesus to the disciples and by so doing makes him central to their thinking. He makes God a reality to people.”[6] A reality to those in Christ, and Christ in us!
I am thankful for such a great salvation! By God’s mercy and abundant grace, the Spirit initiated a holy conviction of sin and revealed my eternal lost state without Jesus. God is righteous, holy, and awesome! In my depravity, I disowned the Holy and Righteous One. But God, in his mercy condemned that inherent satanic self-will and rebellion and redeemed my life through the Cross. Yours too! So, we proclaim with joy and confidence, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”[7] Beloved, this life is difficult many times over. We struggle and suffer, even as we live for Jesus. Peter encourages us, “But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.”[8]
Be ye encouraged! Hold fast to our shared faith and rejoice in our Lord Jesus every moment of every day. “For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.”[9] I pray, as we are led by the Spirit, we continually bear one another’s burdens and pray unceasingly. Pray for me, and I for you that we do not grow weary of doing good, never give up! “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”[10]
And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim,
My God, how great thou art!
