Friday Morning Prayer:)… October 11, 2018

October 11, 2018 - 6 minutes read
Stand up, stand up for Jesus! ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry, His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey:
Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day;
Ye that are men now serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone,
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own;
Put on the gospel armor, and watching unto prayer,
Where calls the voice of duty, be never wanting there.

In the book of Acts, Jesus promised the disciples Holy Spirit power.  The third person of the Trinity, our glorious triune God empowered then and empowers every genuine believer today.  To the glory of Jesus, we are empowered to be effective witnesses in a lost and dark world.  In our sphere of influence we present as humble, not relying on human wisdom or strength, but dependent on the Holy Spirit to illuminate the gospel.   Paul writes to the church at Corinth, “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on man’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”[3]

We read about the miraculous as the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost.   Many were utterly amazed as Galileans were speaking in various languages and declaring the wonders of God!  They were amazed and perplexed wanting to know the meaning of this miraculous empowering.   The purpose of God was to prepare many hearts for salvation.  Through the power of the Spirit, yielded and faithful disciples proclaimed the gospel.   Moreover, as the Spirit-empowered and illuminated the gospel message, especially the cross, the horrific death, and glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus, and the promised Holy Spirit, people were “…cut to the heart…”[4] and wanted to know what to do.

The gospel is the same yesterday, today, and forever!   We demonstrate the Spirit of Christ working in and through our lives by helping one another, doing the word of God, and encouraging.   “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”[5]  With the Apostle Peter, we readily plead with others, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”[6]  “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.  Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in youunless, of course, you fail the test?”[7]   Repent from evil, cling to the cross, mortify self and selfish ways, join the fellowship of believers, be baptized, and grow in grace to the glory of our Lord Jesus.

Beloved, as believers who live for Jesus as Lord and Christ, we too need to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to effectively work-out our salvation, to love others, and boldly share the gospel.  I am learning to be in the Spirit at all times by simply asking God to baptize me with his Spirit at every turn.   I read somewhere that ‘we experience the friendship of God through his Spirit.’  Our constant goal is to be aware of the spiritual realm and allow the Spirit of Christ rule our spirit.  Oh the necessity to think biblically, perceive and respond to the storms of this life from God’s perspective.  Be encouraged to cry out in earnest prayer; ask our gracious God for a supernatural hunger, for more of Thee, depth of relationship, being constantly filled and overflowing with love for God and others.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! the strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.
