Friday Morning Prayer:)… November 26, 2020

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
And while the wave notes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.

Open my mind, that I may read
More of Thy love in word and deed;
What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead?
Only for light from Thee I plead.[1]

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.  Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.[2]


I am thankful that you, me, and every person who hears the word of truth and truly believes, hence, supernaturally experiences the touch of God, is included in God’s amazing sustaining redemptive plan.  Hearing the gospel, the cross, bloodshed for inherent/willful sin, the resurrection, grace, forgiveness, repentance, new life in Christ, trusting, receiving, sovereignly ensures the Holy Spirit indwells and empowers until the finality of our redemption.  You are God’s possession!  Thank you, Lord.  My life and yours too are meant, even predestined, as the elect of God, to glorify God!  And, to enjoy him forever!  Amazing grace.

Should I be concerned about this new life in Christ?  Am I expectant and excited, humble and even fearful about what it means to be sealed with the Holy Spirit?  God is holy, holy, holy, and indwells in me.  This elicits thankful tears, joy, and a sense of urgency to ensure my reliance, dependency, and a humble heart that continually, persistently proactively asks my gracious God for help, even an empowering, filling of the Spirit to glorify him.  Every regenerate heart has experienced supernatural change and is chosen by God to fight the good fight of faith and continually endeavor toward holiness, maturity, Biblical understanding, hence knowing God better, enjoying him fully as he has determined—reflecting a life characterized by supernatural power.

What does it mean to have supernatural power? “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.”[3]  What does God make available to you and me in Christ, through the Spirit?  A continuous provision of strength and encouragement to holdfast and endure, as well as to proclaim and overflow in Holy Spirit power.  Paul said to the church at Philippi, “Yes, I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.”[4]   Do you long to grasp the depths of God’s love and this supernatural power?  Do I?  Paul prays for us rooted and established in love to experience power, together with all the saints, to grasp how magnificent is the love of Christ.  “…to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”[5]

Beloved, be ye encouraged to experience the depths of God’s love and power.  Truth moves the heart.  My affections, (joy, sense of awe, excitement, fear, tears, etc.) are moved through pursuing and knowing God, spending time in his word, especially when the Spirit illuminates truth very applicable, empowering, and encouraging to living this Christ-life effectively.  Moreover, prayer.  Oh, the struggle to make time and turn down the volume, minimize or even eliminate the distractions so I can hear God, cry out for help to discern well the direction of my actions, thoughts, and spoken words. 

Do you experience God talking to you through the word, the Spirit prompting and directing?  God does talk and has spoken clearly through his word which you want to have an affectionate and heart moving behavioral response consistent with the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control)[6] Moreover, God speaks through our interpersonal experiences, circumstances, especially developed godly accountable relationships established within the body of Christ.  This truth becomes more and more evident as you and me ask for increased desire and pursue with truly regenerate ears to hear and eyes to see what God is doing in and through our lives in Christ.    Thankful, our God engages us today and is gracious, compassionate, and cares about our journey through this life as we have a blessed assurance, living hope for the next.

Open my mouth, and let me bear,
Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share
