’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
“Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty—he is the King of Glory.”
What moves your heart? God moves each of us differently, yet similar in that Holy Spirit power is orchestrating according to his sovereign will and plan for our individual and collective lives. “Yes, ‘tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease, Just from Jesus simply taking Life and rest, and joy and peace.” God moves your heart and mine as he determines and I am thankful. Listening to and singing hymns filled with gospel truth stirs my heart! “Grace, grace, God’s grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within, Grace, grace, God’s grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin… “Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things!” God sustaining brothers and sisters in the faith moves me. The evidence of a regenerate heart is absolutely marvelous! “His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations.”
A fella I’ve known for many years came to my office yesterday. We discussed “spirituality” in contrast to the gospel. I readily expressed my convictions knowing that during many of our times together we share with similar terms and “the Lord” is referenced, yet our understanding different. Therefore, prayerfully I highlighted the exclusive nature of the gospel, the cross, a truly regenerate heart and the narrow path that “spirituality” in the broadest sense does not belong, nor is there salvation. He became ruffled, “How do you know? What makes you an authority?” “That sounds cultic, a blind faith, and there are other religions older than Christianity.”
Beloved, with respect and gentleness, with Holy Spirit power and strong conviction, we are always prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope that we have. Without a doubt, God’s grace has changed this burly guy from ways that lead to prison to more positive ways of being. He listens well, expresses himself clearly and contemplates ideas. I pray God will grant saving grace and a truly regenerate heart. God has to change the depraved heart and illuminate the word of God by supernatural means. You pray for salvation for those in your life too and anticipate that glorious day, until then, love in Christ prevails.
How do I know? How do you know with certainty? Salvation is through Christ alone. “This is my story this is my song praising my Savior all the day long.” The regenerate heart sings and proclaims, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine O what a foretaste of glory divine, Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. Perfect submission, all is at rest I in my Savior am happy and blessed [!]” Brother Mark preaching our new life in Christ asked, “How real is Christ to you today? How real is the Devil, especially as a roaring lion seeking who he may devour? How real is the Holy Spirit to you? Do I pray in the Spirit on all occasions? What about my relationships with the body of believers? How much do I value the word of God? Do I give the Devil a foothold or inadvertently, even willingly give room for evil to get me out of step?
We fight the good fight of faith individually and together. I need encouragement and so do you to hold fast and persevere in the strength of our Lord. I need to be reminded that the spiritual realm is just as real as the physical and I need to hide in our gracious God, especially as we contend for our shared faith and give answers for the hope in Christ we share.
God help us, have mercy on those you bring into our sphere of influence and grant them the gift of salvation according to your sovereign design, even through our efforts, recognizing our constant need to be empowered by your Spirit to share this supernatural life-changing grace unto salvation. “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it; the world, and all who live in it;”
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
