Friday Morning Prayer:)… November 18, 2021

November 19, 2021 - 6 minutes read

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.[1]

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.  O Lord of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in Thee!”[2]

______________

Every truly regenerate heart strives by God’s abundant grace to walk with the Lord in the light of his Word.  The ability to trust God is a gift from God.  Peter wrote, “…To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received (lit., have been granted) a faith as precious as ours:”[3]  Our gracious and merciful God has given you and me the subjective/personal ability to trust him unto salvation with continual preserving grace to keep trusting, even with desperate cries, through every trial, fear, heartache, sickness, yes, every trouble and overwhelming despair.

In talking through the initial verses of 2 Peter with brothers tonight, it was most encouraging!  However, the consensus was that this life is difficult, even as we persevere in Christ.  Absolutely!  “Grace and peace…[ours] in abundance…” even as we endure pain and suffering in the sovereign hand of God.  The paradoxical life-in-Christ.  Beloved, ‘Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross, But is blessed if we trust and obey.’

It is most difficult to trust and obey when the chains of depression are heavy and debilitating day after day.  We carry each other’s burdens and live out our precious faith with overflowing love, prayer, practical help, words of encouragement as the Spirit leads.  Brother/sister, pursue, pursue, pursue the healing, comforting, restoring grace of God for others and yourself.   The psalmist, “Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry for help come to you.  Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress.  Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.”  The psalmist laments, yet has the ability (grace of God) to have hope through his turmoil, “…You will arise and have compassion on Zion…”  Moreover, “He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.  Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.”[4]  Yes! We are the future generation in Christ— “…we rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”[5]

Be ye encouraged as you pursue the knowledge of God through his living Word.  “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”[6]

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
