Friday Morning Prayer:)… May 23, 2019
May 23, 2019 - 7 minutes read How firm a foundation
You saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith in
His excellent Word
What more can He say
Than to you He has said
To you who for refuge
To Jesus have fled
To you who for refuge
To Jesus have fled
Fear not I am with you
Oh be not dismayed
For I am your God
And will still give you aid
I’ll strengthen you help you
And cause you to stand
Upheld by My righteous
Omnipotent hand
Upheld by My righteous
Omnipotent hand
When through the deep waters
I call you to go
The rivers of sorrow
Shall not overflow
For I will be with you
Your troubles to bless
And sanctify to you
Your deepest distress
And sanctify to you
Your deepest distress[1]
“For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”[2]
We sing in the power of the Spirit, “There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God’s own Son; Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One. Thank you, oh, my Father, for giving us your Son, and leaving Your Spirit ‘til the work on earth is done.”[3] It is good and necessary to be reminded of how firm a foundation on which we stand, live and have our being. On the Christ the solid rock I stand! All other ground is sinking sand.[4] “Standing on the promises that cannot fail, when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, by the living Word of God I shall prevail, standing on the promises of God….”[5]
“In Christ alone, my hope is found; he is my light, my strength, my song…”[6] “He sought me when a stranger wandering from the fold of God; he to rescue me from danger, bought me with his precious blood…”[7] Therefore, “…This Cornerstone this solid ground firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My Comforter, my all in all here in the love of Christ I stand.”[8] Shout for joy to Yahweh, all the earth. Worship the LORD [Yahweh] with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.[9]
In Christ, we “Know that the LORD [Yahweh] is God.” The great “I AM” Our “God is constant. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He cannot be improved. He is not becoming anything. He is who he is.”[10] “It is he, who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”[11] Through Jesus, the Word became flesh, we stand on a firm foundation, the only Solid Rock to sustain our new life in Christ. We worship God the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit, our triune God. Joyful songs we sing in response to who God is and what he has done! Joy from God is returned to him; through his mercy we are his, he indwells and empowers. ”How good is the God we adore, / Our faithful, unchangeable Friend!”[12]
A brother expressed concern this week. The inevitable changing circumstances we must proactively endure. He ministers to many the faithfulness of God, God’s love and our call to trust him with all we have and who we are. His concern was his own doubt. I encouraged him in the moment. I assured him there will come a time when I need encouragement too! I doubt at times and have to lean on brothers to remind me of God’s faithfulness and love me through the storm. Be ye encouraged this day! The storms must come to mature us in Christ. The Potter is at work, we are the clay. He molds and shapes as he determines, ultimately for our good. His love endures forever, his faithfulness continues through all generations.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”[13]
When through fiery trials
Your pathway shall lie
My grace all-sufficient
Shall be your supply
The flame shall not hurt you
I only design
Your dross to consume and
Your gold to refine
Your dross to consume and
Your gold to refine
The soul that on Jesus
Has leaned for repose
I will not I will not
Desert to his foes
That soul though all hell
Should endeavor to shake
I’ll never no never
No never forsake
I’ll never no never
No never forsake
