Friday Morning Prayer:)… May 2, 2019

“Take up thy cross and follow Me, “I heard my Master say; “I gave My life to ransom thee, Surrender your all today.”Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go, I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go.  He drew me closer to His side, I sought His will to know; And in that will I now abide, Wherever He leads I’ll go. Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go, I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go.[1]  

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith….”[2]

As we journey this life in Christ our gracious God leads and follows all the days of our lives.  Brother Mark at Emmanuel Christian preached from Psalm 23 this past Sunday.  Biblical truth encourages us to hold fast to the gospel, to know and enjoy our very personal God more and more as we mature in our shared faith through abundant grace.   We read throughout the Old Testament, LORD, which is better translated YHWH and pronounced Yahweh.  The name of God occurs over 6k times in the OT and highlights that “God is not a generic deity, but wants us to know him as a person with a name that carries his unique character and mission.”[3]  The goal of learning biblical truth, prayer, worship, even fellowship is to cultivate an awareness of the daily, moment by moment, presence of God.   

Yahweh our God is very personal and calls you and me to know and experience this truth.  He exists with me—our Father full of loving kindness overflowing into you and me.[4]  I need to be reminded of God’s existence and allow this supernatural understanding to direct my daily life.  I want to cherish the old rugged cross and cling to it every day.  A wondrous attraction because of its transforming power to change, to humble, to rejoice, to boast, and allow the Spirit of Jesus to empower, inform, and direct our daily life pursuit.   “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.[5]  

When all seems broken or the light is not as bright, the burden is heavy, our Mighty God, precious Savior, “cares for us—Jesus takes care of us—he loves us even in our weaknesses and ignorance.”[6]  Jesus our Good Shepherd, my Shepherd and yours, “He makes me lie down in ‘shepherds’ grass,’ he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.”[7]  When we are not sure which way to turn, “He guides me in paths of righteousness… why does our Shepherd guide us in the right paths?  “for his name’s sake.”[8]  Beloved, be ye encouraged!  “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have never forsaken those who seek you.”[9]  

In this life many times things do not turn out as we expect, yet our divine calling to fellowship with God in Christ, to experience Yahweh through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, we are sustained and our soul restored.  We rejoice in knowing, God has great love for us, he is rich in mercy and has made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in sin, by grace you have been saved.[10]  How cool and exciting, even beyond our human comprehension we are seated with Christ in the heavenly realms.  Why?  

“…in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”[11]    Let’s pray unceasing, cry out in worship, fellowship with Yahweh through our Lord Jesus.  “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”[12]  “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”[13]

It may be through the shadows dim

Or o’er the stormy sea:
