Friday Morning Prayer:)… May 14, 2020

I serve a risen Savior
  He’s in the world today.
I know that He is living,
  Whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy;
  I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him
  He’s always near.

He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
    He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me
  I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary,
  I never will despair;
I know that He is leading,
  Through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing
  Will come at last.[1]

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him.  But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”[2]


I know Jesus lives!  You do too.  We see his hand of mercy, especially when I pay attention and intentionally pursue our living God.  Oh, the longing to hear his voice of cheer and recognize when I need him; I alone, and we together prayerfully sing, sing, sing, “I need Thee every hour, Most gracious Lord; No tender voice like Thine Can peace afford.”[3]  It is so true for every person, especially the regenerate heart, the need for Thee every hour.  In joy or pain, we pray with tears asking for a constant, or at least a renewing recurring supernatural sense of God’s presence and the ability to truly enjoy his abiding! Otherwise, life is vain!

The joy and necessary pursuit to explore foundational truth at Bible study with the goal of equipping the saints.  Last week we discussed the deity of Christ, this week the accuracy of Scripture.  It is critical that we, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect.”[4]  It is essential that I renew my mind, nourish understanding, intellect, and knowledge through hiding scripture in my heart and memorize so that when I speak the wisdom of God might be spoken.  Moreover, those longed-for supernatural desires are increasingly generated through the process and inevitably will overflow as God indwells in and through you!

Brother Mark also encouraged the saints to listen to the Lord throughout the day.  We pray and God hears; I believe God speaks, but do I listen?  Do I hear his voice?  How does God speak to me?  The psalmist, “Give ear to my words, O Lord [Yahweh], consider my sighing.  Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.  In the morning, O Lord [Yahweh] you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”[5]  Like the psalmist, we too wait in expectation for God to engage us, to speak as he determines.  I definitely hear God through scriptures, through others, through circumstances, strong conviction like feeling bad when I mouth off or act rudely.  Of course, it is much better when I am kind, generous, and experience joy and love, and peace from God.  

I am thankful to our gracious Father, Jesus our Savior and Lord, and the Spirit—one God three persons indwelling and redirecting you, me, and every genuine believer toward maturity and righteousness in Christ.  The scripture is clear, “…solid food is for the mature who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”[6]  In Christ, you are rooted and established in love and we constantly ask, seek, and knock for supernatural power to live this life to the glory of God, “… together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”[7]

Indeed, we are pursuing an adventure![8]  A joyful journey!  We are sojourners through a world that is not our home.  Your witness, and mine too, is meant to be powerful!  We illuminate the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness… of God indwelling and overflowing!  Your emotions and intellect work together to glorify God!  I want to feel the love and joy of God.  When I do not feel or sense, I know God is always faithful.  Rejoice in that you do know and I do too, the empowering experience, hence the affectionate experience of the Spirit working in and through you to encourage, to teach, to sing with joy and cry tears of joy as God orchestrates his supernatural indwelling presence to glorify himself.

I pray for increased desire in you and me too, that we may sing and experience many times each day the never-ending truth, “He lives, He lives, salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives?  He lives within my heart.”

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
  Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs
  To Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him,
  The Help of all who find,
None other is so loving,
  So good and kind.

“If you don’t know, fight on a little longer soldier!”  “I can see him! I can see him on your face!”  Yes!  I hear him from your spoken words from your regenerate heart!
