Friday Morning Prayer:)… March 4, 2021
March 5, 2021 - 7 minutes readThere is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.
O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God;
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where we our Savior meet,
Near to the heart of God.1
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”2
_______________
Pursuing the heart of God. The Psalmist, “Praise the Lord, [Yahweh] all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”3 Moreover, “Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing praise to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.”4
Peter emphatically encourages, praise God! The Psalmist also encourages, sing praise, and tell of all his wonderful acts. The ultimate act of mercy is the cross; in this great mercy you, me, and every person who believes is born anew into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. I am thankful for the Bible, the word of God that reminds us of God’s wonderful acts, especially salvation! You have a glorious inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade.5 Indeed, we have been delivered from darkness and the recurring evil desires and sinful behaviors. God preserves your life in Christ and graciously gives supernatural rejoicing; the Spirit of Jesus empowering, shielding, and overflowing.
What does it look like to pursue the heart of God? How do I find that place of quiet rest where sin cannot molest? Is it possible to always know that place of comfort sweet and be where ‘we our’ Savior meet?’ Our brother and shepherd Mark Mueller in preaching good news from 1 Thes. 5:16-17 “Be joyful always; pray continually” emphasized expanding the definition of prayer to a constant awareness of God’s indwelling presence. Be deliberate, always depending on the strength of our God in and through you. I thought of the Westminster shorter catechism; our primary purpose is to glorify God and enjoy him forever; and, be encouraged in that God enjoys us too as our merciful Father, through Jesus our Redeemer, brother, friend.
Brother/sister, be encouraged, spur one another on toward love and good deeds, fan into flame the Spirit’s fire, always relying on and crying out for the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray you always know and experience that inexpressible and glorious joy in Christ as you battle through the difficulties inherent in this world. It is supernatural comfort sweet being in communion, fellowship, quiet rest where our merciful, gracious God preserves your Christ-life in an enjoyable, meaningful, ever-growing relationship.
Glory in his holy name… seek his face always.
There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God;
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.
Sisters are meeting to pray together. First Baptist, 1912 Arnold Way, Alpine 0900
You are invited to join sisters in Christ for a sweet hour of prayer. Well, as the Spirit leads, 10-15 min of sharing, encouraging, loving, and 45 min of devoted intentional prayer. Thank you! Sisters. Your help through constant prayer is very much appreciated.
Brothers are meeting too! Zoom. 0730. Link below.
Zoom has worked and most enjoyable as far as it goes. To God’s glory, for sure! I am expecting to resume in person soon. Please give you feedback as the Spirit leads you on making that move. We will still do Zoom concurrently once we are back in-person meeting. If you have time in your schedule for the 0730 meetings and want to meet in person because Zoom doesn’t work for you… let me know. Pray continually for the brothers, even if your schedule doesn’t allow you to make it on Friday mornings.
