Friday Morning Prayer:)… March 29, 2018

March 29, 2018 - 4 minutes read
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His gentle breast;
There by His love o’ershaded,
Sweetly my soul shall rest.
Hark! ’tis the voice of angels
Borne in a song to me,
Over the fields of glory,
Over the jasper sea.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His gentle breast;
There by His love o’ershaded,
Sweetly my soul shall rest.

Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe from corroding care,
Safe from the world’s temptations;
Sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow,
Free from my doubts and fears;
Only a few more trials,
Only a few more tears![1]

“On reaching the place, he said to them, ‘Pray that you will not fall into temptation.’ He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’ “[2]

I am stronger in the presence of my Savior.   We cry out in faith relying on our indwelling God to help us in our time of need.  Jesus strengthens us and gives a supernatural joy in the midst of the storm.  Truly, as we trust our Lord Jesus, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”[3]  I want to know better the safety of being in the arms of Jesus, the safety from corroding care and the world’s temptations, sin cannot harm me there.

How true the lyrics, “I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord; no tender voice like Thine can peace afford.  I need Thee, oh, I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee; oh, bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee.”[4]  Beloved, you too want to know better the depths of Christ, his ever-present help to love deeper, walk stronger, confident and overflowing.  As you heed his call, an intentional pursuit without distraction, an earnest plea desiring comfort and strength, “He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.”[5]

For us who are being saved the cross is the power of God.  The death of Jesus on the cross points to my death and the death of every genuine believer.  His resurrection points to our new life in Christ.    In Christ we are born again, saved from eternal punishment due to sin.  We continue to take up our cross and continually put to death our self and all our selfish, hateful, depraved tendencies.  We desperately need Jesus to help us overcome this journey of pruning— we suffer trials to mold us into the likeness of Jesus.

To successfully make it through this Christian journey it takes a body of devoted believers.  We need each other.  Together we can endure.  Brother/sister, be encouraged to fight the good fight of faith.  You are stronger in the presence of our Savior, only a few more trials, only a few more tears.
Jesus, my heart’s dear Refuge,
Jesus has died for me;
Firm on the Rock of Ages
Ever my trust shall be.
Here let me wait with patience,
Wait till the night is o’er;
Wait till I see the morning
Break on the golden shore.
