Friday Morning Prayer:)… March 24, 2022

March 25, 2022 - 5 minutes read

The cross upon which Jesus died

Is a shelter in which we can hide

And its grace so free is sufficient for me

And deep is its fountain as wide as the sea.

Though millions have found him a friend

And have turned from the sins they have sinned

The Savior still waits to open the gates

And welcome a sinner before it’s too late.

The hand of my Savior is strong

And the love of my Savior is long

Through sunshine or rain, through loss or in gain,

The blood flows from Calvary to cleanse every stain.[1]

“Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.”[2]

______________

The Christians at Thessalonica weren’t sure about what part their fellow believers who died would have at the return of Christ.  So, Paul reassures the believers.  “We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who sleep in him.”[3]    It was a joy talking through the last 5 verses of 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 with brothers last night.  Indeed, we were encouraged by Paul’s inspired words as the Spirit of God led our discussion.

“We believe Jesus died…” ‘The cross… is a shelter in which we can hide.’  We sing redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; the hymn chorus, “I will glory in the cross, in the cross, lest his suffering all be in vain, I will weep no more for the cross that he bore, I will glory in the cross.”[4]  The mercy and grace of God demonstrated through the cross of Christ is sufficient; and, it is most efficient for the truly regenerate heart, those drinking at and pursuing the depths of the fountain.  My life and yours truly began at the cross.  We have supernatural hope!  A blessed assurance, confidence, certainty, and recurring Holy Spirit power to live and please our gracious God.  Amazing truth!  Jesus indwells, the kingdom of God is in our midst, and he will return “…with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.”[5]

This life is full of uncertainty, discouragement, pain and heartache, struggle, frustration, recurring sin, pride, self-sufficient tendencies, etc. ‘Through sunshine or rain, through loss or in gain, The blood flows from Calvary to cleanse every stain.’  Humble, by God’s power you persevere, so do I.  The cross before, the world behind.  Through the awesome power of God, we, who hide in the cross, will be caught up together in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  Wow!  May this supernatural reality sink in, hidden in your heart to motivate and encourage.  Beloved, our hope, certainty, “…we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore, encourage each other with these words.”[6]

There’s room at the cross for you

There’s room at the cross for you

Though millions have come, there’s still room for one

Yes there’s room at the cross for you.
