Friday Morning Prayer:)… June 28, 2018

June 28, 2018 - 7 minutes read
Take the world, but give me Jesus,
All its joys are but a name;
But His love abideth ever,
Through eternal years the same.

Oh, the height and depth of mercy!
Oh, the length and breadth of love!
Oh, the fullness of redemption,
Pledge of endless life above!

Take the world, but give me Jesus,
Sweetest comfort of my soul;
With my Savior watching o’er me,
I can sing though billows roll.[1]

“You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[2]

There is nothing in this world that compares to the supernatural transforming power of God realized by those who genuinely believe.  Every regenerate heart is born of the Spirit.  “It is God who makes us stand firm in Christ.  He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”[3]  Our sovereign God gets all the credit for our great salvation.  “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God−that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.”[4]  We boast in the Lord!  We are living because God gives us breath, even the Holy Spirit to sustain our journey as we grow and mature in Christ.[5]

In Christ, we are compelled to cry out to God for continual refreshing that constantly feeds the desire to pursue a life reflecting the glory of God.  Do I constantly bring glory to God with my life?  I can’t!  God does.  Humble before our gracious God.  “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.”[6]     Our call is to love intentionally, to encourage the timid, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.  It is God working in and through us in a daily pursuit of practical love because of an inward supernatural work.

A humble dependence on God to ensure I work out this great salvation with fear and trembling.  God is holy, holy, holy.  I do not want to grieve my God who has given me life eternal.  I need his power to fight the old nature, to resist the devil, and run from those things that will cause compromise and hinder my maturing in the ways of God.  Beloved, I pray you too are pursuing the will of God: to be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances.[7]  You know, as do I, this is impossible without the Spirit’s fire!  The Spirit of God indwelling helps us daily, even to test everything, hold on to the good, and avoid every kind of evil.[8]

The pursuit of God hour by hour, moment by moment, praying continually is at minimum being spiritually alert and mindful of our gracious God every waking moment.  I very much appreciated pastor Mark encouraging me and the body of Christ this past Sunday, to fight the good fight of faith.  Brother, enjoy everything we have in Spirit.  Sister, be ye encouraged to set “things” aside for the joy experienced in pursuing God in his power!  Is the pursuit of God a duty or is it enjoyable?  Linger with God in prayer, allowing the Spirit to supernaturally overwhelm.  Our life in Christ is exciting, especially as we pursue God.  Prayer certainly can be considered work for subsequent supernatural events to occur!  A repentant heart and humble cry for the mercy of God to be realized is our constant prayer.

“For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”[9]

Take the world, but give me Jesus,
Let me view His constant smile;
Then throughout my pilgrim journey
Light will cheer me all the while.

Take the world, but give me Jesus;
In His cross my trust shall be,
Till, with clearer, brighter vision,
Face to face my Lord I see.
