Friday Morning Prayer:)… June 25, 2020

June 25, 2020 - 7 minutes read

Make my life a prayer to you
I wanna do what you want me to
No empty words and no white lies
No token prayers no compromise

I wanna shine the light you gave
Through your son you sent to save us
From ourselves and our despair
It comforts me to know you’re really there

Well I wanna thank you now
For being patient with me
Oh it’s so hard to see
When my eyes are on me
I guess I’ll have to trust
And just believe what you say
Oh you’re coming again
Coming to take me away[1]

“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ “[2]

Do I really believe that the Scriptures are the Word of God?  Yes, and I recognize that to genuinely believe and draw life from the Scriptures requires mercy and grace from God to stir the spiritually dead heart to receive spiritual life;[3] a supernatural born-again life that never ends, a spiritual life that includes God’s power, love, peace, and joy.  The evidence of this great salvation is manifest in the regenerate heart spurred on to action to make with great effort the rest in God, personal, dynamic, and life-changing.

“Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.”[4]  Israel of old did not enter the rest of God because they did not genuinely believe, but hardened their hearts and disobeyed the Word of God.  So too, many today hear the gospel message do not believe and remain disobedient, hence lost in their sins.  You, however, and every genuine believer values the Word of God with a supernatural sense through the prompting by the Spirit of God.

By God’s grace we do encourage one another with supernatural joy!  ‘You help me and I you’ through prayer, counsel, practical interventions, insights, etc. that glorify God.  Beloved, rest in our gracious God and fight to maintain and overflow an attitude of trusting Jesus wholeheartedly, especially in response to what he has done and to what he has made known through the living and active Word.

The Word of God is sufficient and supernaturally efficient to remedy the human condition.  It is “Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”[5]  Recently, a brother and I were discussing the Bible and its effectiveness to change people, especially our teenage sons and daughters.  Oh, the challenge to reach young adults in the midst of a pleasure-seeking culture; this generation, like generations past thrives on worldly distractions, immediate gratification, and struggle to recognize and integrate the way of God.

My call and yours too is to come alongside, pray, pray, pray that God would stir complacent hearts every day to recognize, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.  The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making the wise simple.  The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.  The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.  The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.  The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous.  They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.  By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.”[6]

This week brother Mark highlighted that in the Psalm ‘The law’ referred to the Torah or the first 5 books of the Bible.  The law may also be defined as “The way of God.”[7]  And, the plea from our gracious compassionate Father, like the plea from us as fathers and mothers to our youngsters, teens, and our adult children, follow the way of God.  We pray for and rejoice unto this end!  As you are convinced, and this strong conviction grows as we heed, hold fast and pursue God in the Word, prayer, fellowship, and worship, our children, loved ones, friends, and whoever else God brings into our sphere of influence will, by God’s abundant grace, genuinely know the divine touch and continual, dynamic prompting by the Spirit of Jesus.

I wanna die and let you give
Your life to me so I might live
And share the hope you gave me
The love that set me free

I wanna tell the world out there
You’re not some fable or fairy tale
That I’ve made up inside my head
You’re God the son and you’ve risen from the dead…
