Friday Morning Prayer:)… June 23, 2022

June 24, 2022 - 5 minutes read

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best–
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Ev’ry day the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He whose name is Counselor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.[1]

“Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living.  Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.”[2]

I am thankful for the body of Christ.  We are diverse yet similar in that we share a glorious salvation manifest in a changed life.  The comforting truth is that we are loved by God and chosen to be saved.  Paul, writing to the saints at Thessalonica, encourages us to stand firm and hold fast to gospel truth.  The glory of God is manifest in the diversity of the saints, and our unity is grounded in the supernatural reality we share.  By God’s sovereign grace, this salvation is experienced, cherished, sought after, and genuinely lived to God’s glory.

From the beginning, God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit.  In Christ, we are called and empowered to be set apart and live holy, joyful, prayerful, with a thankful attitude.  “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.  May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” And, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”[3]

God chose you to be saved through belief in the truth.  Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”[4] Unlike those who perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved, you, and all those indeed in Christ, love God and desire to love him more and more.   Help, Lord.

God called us unto salvation through the gospel.  Why?  So that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Do you see the glory of God in your life?  Overflowing love for another, restraint, a gentle word spoken to calm, the Spirit of God comforting, evident fruit in difficulties: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness amid an angry world, even with a struggling loved one, brother, or sister in Christ.  As God gives opportunity, to his glory, we carry burdens and plead before the throne of grace.  “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms with Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”[5]

Help me then in eve’ry tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.
