Friday Morning Prayer:)… June 2, 2021

June 3, 2022 - 5 minutes read

Ere you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?

Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray.

When you met with great temptation,
Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit,
Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay?

When your heart was filled with anger,
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way?

When sore trials came upon you,
Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day?[1]

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will for you in Christ Jesus.”[2]

We strive in the power of God to live and have our being in Christ.  The Christian life is a pursuit of ever-increasing love for others and heightened regard for others, especially those serving in the body of Christ.  As far as it depends on me, I am called to live at peace with everyone.  The genuinely regenerate heart realizes the supernatural obligation to find out what pleases the Lord.  Enoch was commended as one who pleased God.  Why?  “Enoch walked with God…”  Humbly, with great effort we walk with God, praying continually, experiencing the joy of our indwelling God, and giving thanks in all circumstances.

Jesus, our Lord, walked with God, demonstrating for us the life-changing powerful presence we embrace, and by whom we are embraced.  “During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears t the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.”[3]  Beloved, embrace, and be embraced by the God of all comfort.

As you walk with God, cry out from a renewed mind controlled by the Spirit of God.  “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.  And by him we cry, Abba, Father.  The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”[4]  The joy of a supernatural relationship!  Many times, sorrow comes, yet always rejoicing because of God’s indwelling Spirit.

Be ye encouraged as God mends your broken heart and strengthens you, me, and all those who are his, day by day, even moment by moment.  With the Psalmist, we pray, “Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge.  I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.”

“I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.”   Thank you, Lord, Jesus, for the grace to walk with you.
