Friday Morning Prayer:)… June 14, 2018
June 14, 2018 - 8 minutes readEre you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?
Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray.
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray.
When you met with great temptation,
Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit,
Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay?[1]
Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit,
Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay?[1]
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?[2]

Whatever I do, do I do it to the glory of God? I’d say I am in process, a progressive sanctification for sure. I desire that my life be consistent in glorifying God. In Christ you too want to glorify God through your life. The glory of God is Jesus, our God incarnate. His life, death, and resurrection is the manifest glory of God. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”[3] Do you believe this? Martha said she believed Jesus was the Christ. Jesus brought more glory into her life by raising Lazarus from the dead. Supernatural power with great humility is God’s glory manifest. By God’s grace we genuinely believe, “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”[4]
As we genuinely believe, Jesus is Lord, and our lives are controlled by the Spirit of God who lives in us, we share the glory of God. Moreover, we have received the Spirit of sonship, and we cry out in prayer, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.[5] Be encouraged! “…our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us…. We groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies, our hope. We wait patiently. The good news is that the Spirit helps us in our weakness, even as we do not know what we ought to pray, the Spirit intercedes according to God’s will and his glory.[6]
A transformed life, a supernaturally regenerate heart sets its focus on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. I died, and through the power and supernatural glory of God, my life is now hidden with Christ in God. And, when Christ, who is my life, appears, then I also will appear with him in glory.[7] How cool is that? Pastor Mark preached last Sunday, “all we do, do all to the glory of God in the name of Jesus.” Indeed! Set your mind on things above. The Lord helps us crucify our selfish sinful nature every day. His power! His call! We are safe in Christ to love others and by God’s grace consider how we may spur one another on toward supernatural love and good deeds.[8] This interpersonal love and ever-increasing love for our gracious God in Christ will ultimately be fulfilled in eternity. Today this overflowing process is our ongoing pursuit in the power of the Spirit.[9]
In growing from glory to glory we spend time with our gracious God. “Oh, how praying rests the weary! Prayer will change the night to day.” “My soul thirsts for the living God.” “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”[10] I earnestly pray you long for the presence of God way beyond the longings of this life. I know God will give you and me the desires of our regenerate heart. Brother Mark highlighted that prayer with God, the pursuit of him is pleasurable to our gracious God. Our supernatural call is to “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit’s fire;”[11] Right on! Be ye empowered to love others well, and sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.[12]
When your heart was filled with anger,
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way?
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way?
When sore trials came upon you,
Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day?
Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day?
