Friday Morning Prayer:)… July 4, 2019

Come and see, look on this mystery
The Lord of the universe nailed to a tree
Christ our God, spilling His Holy blood
Bowing in anguish, His sacred head  

Sing to Jesus, Lord of our shame
Lord of our sinful hearts, He is our great redeemer
Sing to Jesus, honor His name
Sing of His faithfulness, pouring His life out unto death  

Come you weary and He will give you rest
Come you who mourn, lay on His breast
Christ who died, risen in Paradise
Giver of mercy, Giver of life[1]  

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”[2]

It is a great day to sing to Jesus!  This is the day our Lord has made, help me Lord to rejoice and be glad in it.   Indeed!  Sing to Jesus honor his name through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.  “Sing, oh, sing of my Redeemer, with his blood he purchased me; on the cross, he sealed my pardon, paid the debt and made me free.”[3]  The depths of redemption, grasping more how deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure that he should give his only Son and make a wretch his treasure.[4]  I listen and sing these precious gospel songs and joy is evident.  Tears flow too when I recognize, or more accurately am given the grace to grasp the depths God’s love despite myself; I pray for more grace to overcome daily!  Abundant grace to fight the good fight of faith to curb and even eliminate those tendencies to take much for granted, to go through the motions, my failure to stop and be still before our holy God.  The busy routine, doing from habit, sharing the cross, the power of the blood, reading the Bible, typing an email, even praying without listening brings tears to my eyes in light of the depths of our gracious God.  

We sing with the eyes of our heart enlightened!  We long for and pursue to know the extent of the hope to which we are called, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints!  And, the incomparably great power for us who believe![5]  Thank you, Jesus. “How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent word!  What more can He say than to you He hath said, to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?”[6]

Brother Tom preached on power, love, and self-discipline this past Lord’s Day.  The application of a saved mind is daily pursuit.  The week before brother Jacob shared on our mind diet, and our brother Mark highlighted, “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”[7]   Truly, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”   

Beloved in Jesus!  Loving one another in Jesus, encouraging, praying and spurring one another to keep the fire burning through the power of the Holy Spirit in abundant love and good deeds… this is who we are and what we do.  We have the mind of Christ[8] and inherent in this life are your and my unique struggles we are called to endure with our ever-present God.   I struggle to endure through self-discipline.  With a sense of urgency, I must, and you too, rely on Holy Spirit power to live a life worthy of this supernatural calling we have received.[9]    I want to grasp the significance of this incomparably great power being completely humble and gentle, mindful of God’s presence.  Moreover, we pray for “courage- knowing how to press on or stay still.   We thank our God for wisdom and direction given, especially as we “be still” before the throne of grace.”[10]  

God is faithful, helping the regenerate heart, mind, and soul to grasp the depths and experience the love, joy, peace of our God through the midst of it all.  “Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.  By day Yahweh directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.”[11] 

Be ye empowered!  Never give up! 

Sing to Jesus this is the throne
Now and forever He is the King of Heaven
Sing to Jesus, we are His own
Now and forever sing for the love our God has shown
