Friday Morning Prayer:)… February 28, 2019

February 28, 2019 - 8 minutes read

I wandered so aimless
My life filled with sin.
I wouldn’t let my
Dear Saviour in.
Then Jesus came like
A stranger in the night
Praise the Lord -,
I saw the light.

I saw the light,
I saw the light,
No more darkness,
No more night -,
Now I’m so happy,
No sorrow in sight.
Praise the Lord,
I saw the light.

Just like a blind man
I wandered along.
Worries and fears
I claimed for my own.
Then like the blind man
That God gave back his sight
Praise the Lord –
I saw the light.[1]

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.[2]

It has been said that the genuine Christian life has to be lived on the inside, within the heart.[3]  Indeed!  The God of mercy effectually calling the depraved heart to salvation is to experience regeneration resulting in repentance and faith.  God’s saving grace!  “Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight, praise the Lord – I saw the light.”  The renewed heart readily sings the following hymn chorus with joy and confidence!

He’s in my feet when I’m walking,
In my tongue when I’m talking,
In my eyes and now I can see.
He’s in the songs that I’m singing,
In my heart His joy is ringing, Jesus Is Living In Me[4].

During those difficult days and even seasons of life that are seemingly overwhelming, we are assured that the God of all comfort indwells within!  He knows my name, he knows my every thought, he sees each tear that falls, and he hears me when I call.[5]   As our lives are truly hidden in Christ, our whole spiritual being is possessed by the Lord Jesus; hence the life of the Lord will be manifested in everything we do.

In light of God’s mercy, we are forgiven through the shed blood of Christ and strengthened to live this Christ life.  I have been made right with a holy, holy, holy God, justified, even as I battle recurring sins in this body of flesh.  This is great news! The cross, the sacrifice of Christ is what God accepted as payment for my sins. I did not do anything but recognized, as God opened my eyes, the mercy of God through the death of Jesus for my undeserving life.   Our Lord Jesus loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  Therefore, my heavenly calling and yours too as dearly loved children is to be imitators of God and live a life of love.[6]

Peter reminds us that we “like living stones are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”[7]  Paul urges us in view of God’s mercy to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—our spiritual act of worship.[8]  I do not want to conform to the pattern of this world!  It is a daily struggle.  Therefore, we are being transformed by the renewing of our minds in order to discern the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.[9]  Moreover, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.  Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.”[10]

The greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.[11]  The unregenerate heart does not care about love in this fashion.  My regenerate heart struggles to stay consistent in love and resist the temptation to react to circumstances in less than loving ways.  I know through the conviction of the Spirit when I fail and I know the power of God that helps you and me keep the Spirit’s fire burning through all life’s challenges.  We are new creatures in Christ!  Therefore, we strive with all his power to walk in love.   I read just this morning, “When we live for the eternal, we find purpose in the temporal.  When we love God fully, we love our neighbor well.  When we ‘seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,’ the result is that ‘all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33)’ Are you seeking first the kingdom of God today?”[12]

Beloved in Jesus, I write a few words, relying on the inspired Word of God to encourage you to be sincere, hate what is evil, cling to what is good.  We persevere!  Be devoted to one another in brotherly love, honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer….[13]  A very powerful text defining ’love in action‘ for every born-again heart living in the light of Christ.

I was a fool to
Wander and stray.
Straight is the gate
And narrow the way.
Now I have traded
The wrong for the right;
Praise the Lord,
I saw the light.
