Friday Morning Prayer:)… February 17, 2022

February 18, 2022 - 5 minutes read

Take the Name of Jesus with you,
Child of sorrow and of woe,
It will joy and comfort give you;
Take it then, where’er you go.

Precious Name, oh, how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of Heav’n;
Precious Name, oh, how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of Heav’n.

Take the Name of Jesus ever,
As a shield from every snare;
If temptations round you gather,
Breathe that holy Name in prayer.

Oh, the precious Name of Jesus!
How it thrills our souls with joy,
When His loving arms receive us,
And His songs our tongues employ![1]

“They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.”[2]

Tell of his might, sing of his grace!  Am I mindful of Jesus, taking the precious Name of Jesus where’er I go?  So often, this life distracts.  The sorrows and woes multiply, the temptations do surround, feeling overwhelmed; you, and me too, desperately need the comfort of Jesus, his loving, embracing arms.  Beloved, be ye encouraged; our Mighty God indwells!  His loving arms receive the humble heart.  “The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”[3]  Yes!  “…A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord, He taketh my burden away; He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved, He giveth me strength as my day.”[4]  ‘Breathe that holy Name in prayer.’

Psalm 145 is a song, a song our tongues employ!  God is exalted as King, worthy of unceasing praise.  By his saving grace, the regenerate heart is joyfully compelled to extol and praise Jesus every day!  His greatness no one can fathom.  However, an abundant measure of his greatness is revealed; I want to see him better, experience God more, and rejoice always!  Alone, “…I will meditate on your wonderful works.” Together, we “tell of the power of your awesome works…” “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.”[5]

Oh God, you are ‘near to all who call, to all who call on you in truth.’  “He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.”[6]  I pray you, brother, sister, are increasingly amazed in the presence of Jesus, the Nazarene.  His mighty acts, glorious splendor, his power manifest in and through the born-again life!  Indeed, his fame is proclaimed from one generation to another.   Beloved, celebrate with the saints, teach your children, tell your neighbors, and all who will listen; as the Spirit leads, I must tell the awesome works of our God!  You too!  May his abundant goodness move you and me, every day, forever and ever, to praise his holy name, and joyfully sing of his righteousness as we journey this life.

At the Name of Jesus bowing,
Falling prostrate at His feet,
King of kings in heav’n we’ll crown Him,
When our journey is complete.

Precious Name, oh, how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of Heav’n;
Precious Name, oh, how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of Heav’n.
