Friday Morning Prayer:)… February 14, 2019

February 15, 2019 - 7 minutes read

Ours is a fellowship in the gospel
  Since we received the Lord;
We’re for the furtherance of the gospel,
  Spreading to all His Word.
For its defense and strong confirmation
  We all partake of grace—
He who began this work will perfect it
Till we shall see His face.

May all the things that come to us daily
  Unto the gospel turn,
That all may see we’re bound for the gospel
And of the Lord may learn.
May we be bold and fearless in spirit,
  Speaking the Word of God,
Do it in love and do it in power,
  While living in the Lord.

Lord, we’re expecting that we’ll be given
  Boldness with every breath.
Christ must be magnified in our body
  Whether by life or death.
We hope in nothing to be ashamed,
For us to live is Christ—
He is the Person in all our living,
  Our everything, our life.[1]

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”[2]

Happy Valentine’s Day!  I read a blog this morning reminding us to love God with all our being and overflow this supernatural love toward others.   “Everyone wants to be loved and no one wants to be lonely. Valentine’s Day is a perfect holiday to allow God to use you as a witness to his perfect love. Love God with everything in you. Love others like God loves them. Let people know you are a Christian this Valentine’s Day by sharing God’s perfect love with them.” [3]

Why do we gather with other believers in Jesus?  I sat at mid-week gathering and enjoyed the hospitality, the discussion with recurring themes of our sovereign God and the supernatural, courage, trust, being empowered by the Spirit, more than conquers and overcomers in the strength of our God.  We gather with those we love and are loved by; a supernatural love that encourages perseverance in our shared faith.  Like the Apostle Paul in his writing to Christians at Rome, we gather to help strengthen one another and be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.[4]

The more we gather in the name of Jesus the more opportunity we are given to recognize the power of God.  God illuminates his word as gifted brothers teach, a testimony to answered prayer, insights are shared and the body of Christ is nourished and pursuing maturity in understanding the gospel.  “For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last…”[5]  My heart is stirred when God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power, and divine nature are clearly seen in the truly regenerate heart.  I readily smile when a brother or sister speaks with love and kindness, and relates with grace and compassion.  “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart…”[6] And, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”[7]

We gather to worship our God who is worthy of all praise and honor.  “I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.  I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.”[8]  The Apostle John clearly encourages us with gospel truth!  “…if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”[9]  The writer of Hebrews exhorts us to not rebel against the living God, but encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today.[10]  The truth is that I need you to love and encourage me so I do not become hardened and rebellious!  You too need me to love and encourage you!  We need each other!  God designed us according to his pleasure to need each other.  A genuine regenerate heart perseveres in Christ, but we are not called to go at it alone.  God empowers us by his Spirit!  We grow in grace, joining together to glorify God in the fellowship of believers.

May all our lives be worthy the gospel
  Whatever may betide,
All standing fast in oneness of spirit,
  All striving side by side.
Let us proclaim the gospel in fullness
  To satisfy the Lord:
Christ is the life, the church His expression,
  Sound everywhere abroad.
