Friday Morning Prayer:)… February 13, 2020
February 14, 2020 - 7 minutes read O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Greatest treasure of my longing soul
My God, like You there is no other
True delight is found in You alone
Your grace, a well too deep to fathom
Your love exceeds the heavens’ reach
Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom
My highest good and my unending need
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Strong defender of my weary heart
My sword to fight the cruel deceiver
And my shield against his hateful darts
My song when enemies surround me
My hope when tides of sorrow rise
My joy when trials are abounding
Your faithfulness, my refuge in the night[1]
“Therefore, I urge you brothers [sisters] in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.”[2]
“O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer Gracious Savior…” How does this truth find expression in my life, your life too? I met a brother named Michael at the gym this week; his excitement about a Christian conference he attended was contagious! We spoke for five minutes or so as the love of Jesus, kindness, joy in light of sharing about gospel teaching and joyful awe-inspiring worship he experienced with hundreds of people gathered singing in one accord! His regenerate heart found expression through sharing with me Monday morning and I very much enjoyed expressing love and joy with him! Our call in Christ to live a life worthy, completely humble and gentle, overflowing with love is the result of our gracious God and takes my deliberate pursuing effort to accomplish well.
Salvation is by grace alone, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.[3] ‘Your grace, a well too deep to fathom…’ You are God’s workmanship, me too, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.[4] Every regenerate heart embraces this truth. Our sovereign God facilitates the overwhelming days and orchestrates the demands for us to master and overcome; he restores your energy and empowers us to persevere through all our days to bring glory to his name. In light of my failures and this enduring pursuit to mature and grow in grace the more evident is my desperation for God’s mercy. Be ye encouraged that our sovereign God has you in his hand; his renewing mercies are new every morning. “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”[5]
We rejoice in knowing and experiencing our indwelling God who empowers and expresses his love in and through us. Oh, the necessity to co-participate! I too must engage relying on equipping grace to daily offer myself a living sacrifice. The fight to not conform to the pattern of this world is daily to varying degrees of intensity! Brother Mark encouraged the body, “truth protects us: we walk in right-wise-ness fulfilling our calling, walking worthy as our reasonable act of service.”[6] Brother/sister, be encouraged by simple words of love and the power of our God indwelling to cultivate ever-increasing love for truth; Jesus is the way, truth, and life! This great salvation instills and grows a supernatural love manifest in obedience to gospel truth.
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Gracious Savior of my ruined life
My guilt and cross laid on Your shoulders
In my place You suffered bled and died
You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
May all my days bring glory to Your Name
