Friday Morning Prayer:)… December 26, 2019

December 26, 2019 - 9 minutes read

Oh, come let us adore Him
Oh, come let us adore Him
Oh, come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

For He alone is worthy
For He alone is worthy
For He alone is worthy
Christ the Lord

We’ll give You all the glory
We’ll give You all the glory
We’ll give You all the glory
Christ the Lord[1]

Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What love could remember, no wrongs we have done
Omniscient all-knowing, He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What patience would wait, as we constantly roam
What Father so tender is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more[2]

He has shown you, O man, what is good.  And what does the LORD require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.[3]

By God’s abundant grace I echo the Psalmist, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!  My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”[4]  “My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine; for thee all the follies of sin I resign; my gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou; if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.”[5]  We listen to and sing hymns and worship songs as our gracious God moves us to worship and glorify him in song.  “I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.”[6]  We adore our Holy God, proclaim he alone is worthy and give him all the glory because he so loved us, has shown mercy to us, changed us from darkness to light granting desires to love him yearning for more, with heart cries for help with ever-increasing mercies through Jesus, our God, incarnate love and mercy.

What matters most?  My heart aches for those who struggle through the holidays.  The haunting days of old for family gatherings is either distorted memories usually couched in misperceptions of what was or maybe a clear understanding of the pains and dysfunctions that dictated the unregenerate and broken relationships.  Even the most emotionally stable, healthy boundaries and successful family dynamics need what matters most.  All people need the mercy of God.  It is clear from Scripture that we are spiritually dead and live in transgressions and sins as we follow the ways of the world and the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.[7]   Without the mercy of God through the Lord Jesus, I am only interested in pursuing the cravings of my sinful nature and following its desires without any concern or awareness that by nature I am an object of wrath.

What matters most is how I was rescued from this condemned state, spiritually dead without the hope of eternal life and the incomparable riches in Christ Jesus.  “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”[8]  How successful I am, how much money, education, material stuff, etc. just does not matter in comparison to God’s saving mercy!  I pray as I live life talk and listen to diverse folks, may my perception, thoughts, emotions, concerns, and yours too be full of love and mercy. To be in Christ is amazing!  Life is not full of bells and whistles without pain and suffering.  You know your struggles, insecurities, recurring sins, etc.  However, we have a Redeemer and have been made spiritually alive!  The follies of sin I resign by God’s grace.

We pray together secure with supernatural confidence that ‘His mercy is more,
stronger than darkness, new every morn, our sins they are many, His mercy is more!  Moreover, the God of all comfort, indeed, the Father of all in Christ, so tender is calling us home, he welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor; our sins they are many, His mercy is more!’   In my efforts, words do not express the extent of the supernatural transforming power of God in the human heart.

“God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”[9]  “He came to his own and those who were his own did not receive him.   But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name, who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”[10]

What riches of kindness, He lavished on us
His blood was the payment, His life was the cost
We stood ‘neath a debt, we could never afford
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more
