Friday Morning Prayer:)… December 19, 2019

December 19, 2019 - 7 minutes read

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are![1]

“When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.”[2]

A brother was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.  A six-year-old girl suffered a heart attack and her organs began failing; she has a 2% chance of survival.  A mother died and the family is mourning the loss.  O soul, so weary and troubled.  There is no quick fix or easy remedy for the overwhelming heartache and emotional pain that accompanies our human suffering.   You know your struggles and those times, even today for some, overwhelming burdens weigh heavily.  Our only hope, healing grace, and enduring strength is Immanuel, God with us.  We celebrate Jesus!  He is our balm in Gilead.  God’s grace, his favor through our Lord Jesus is a necessity in countless ways and given by the God of all comfort without merit.  Hence, at every turn with every wound, crisis, and difficulty inherent with this life, we ‘turn [our] eyes upon Jesus, look full into his wonderful face….’

“There is balm in Gilead, to make the wounded whole; there’s power enough in heaven, to cure a sin-sick soul.”[3]  “There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.”[4]  The truly regenerate heart knows, yet many times needs encouragement, especially through the storms of life, to nurture inner assurance and tranquility as God ministers to the hearts of believers.  Brother/sister, be encouraged with supernatural confidence with great contentment even in the midst of every turmoil, that God is present.  Our gracious God loves you through the storm through the night, many times realized and manifest from the love and comfort of others, especially fellow believers.  At Sunday service brother Tom highlighted, “Jesus bridged the way to God the Father and empowers by his Spirit.  The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love for one another, the life of Jesus Christ living in us.”[5]

Be ye encouraged this day and always as you rest in, and find great comfort in loving Jesus and experiencing the love of Jesus living in and through us individually and collectively.  “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”[6]  By God’s abundant grace we are given light to look at the Savior and experience life abundant and free!  “He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.”[7]  Turn your eyes upon Jesus…

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
