Friday Morning Prayer:)… December 17, 2021

December 17, 2021 - 5 minutes read

Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace,
Over all victorious, in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth fuller every day,
Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.

Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest
Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.[1]

“Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”[2]

“So, I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.  I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body…”[3]   Even though you might be firmly established in gospel truth, the apostle Peter recognized truth needs to be repeated.   Every week, for the past 3 weeks, I have enjoyed reminding brothers, and myself, that we participate in the divine nature, hold fast to gospel truth, and make every effort to grow in grace.  In Christ, God grants the desire and motivation to be effective and productive, living-out, working-out God’s merciful call, relying on the power of God to help us develop Christian virtues in increasing measure.

The apostle Paul reminds us, “…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”[4] “Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.’”[5]  Moreover, Jesus said, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”[6]   I need to be reminded and encouraged, so do you!  Your Christ-life and mine is supernatural.  Jesus reminds us, “I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”[7]

Having the Word of God is a blessing ongoing—the inspired Word to remind us and encourage us to persevere in his strength.  Jesus said, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”  Yes!  The joy of actively knowing Jesus in increasing measure, loving him, and experiencing his love in a genuine greater than life relationship changes one’s whole disposition.   You see it, I do too!  That brother, that sister, is born again!  There is an evident love for others and a contrast, the old to the new!  A new creation in Christ!  I was once darkness, but now I am light in the Lord.[8]   Praise God!  Beloved, be ye encouraged as you are reminded of everlasting truth.

Every joy or trial falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love;
We may trust Him fully, all for us to do;
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.
