Friday Morning Prayer:)… December 13, 2018

January 17, 2019 - 7 minutes read
Every day they pass me by
I can see it in their eyes
Empty people filled with care
Headed who knows where?

On they go through private pain
Living fear to fear
Laughter hides their silent cries
Only Jesus hears

People need the Lord
People need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams
He’s the open door
People need the Lord
People need the Lord
When will we realize
People need the Lord?[1]

“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed.  Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.”

People need Jesus, our only hope for salvation.  God incarnate in Christ Jesus.  We celebrate Christmas because our Messiah has been born.  With Simeon in the book of Luke, we echo his inspired words, “…For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.”[2]  “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel−which means, ‘God with us.’ “[3]  The angel of the Lord said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Christ the Lord.”[4]  The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, the glory of the One and Only, yet his purpose was to die a sacrificial death.

“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”[5]  We celebrate the birth of Jesus in light of the cross.  “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death−even death on a cross!”  I will cherish the old rugged cross!  The shed blood of Jesus cleanses us from inherent willful sin.  Sin separates every person from a holy God.  However, every person is created in the image of God and is designed to have fellowship and enjoy him forever.  Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”[6]  This “believe” is a genuine, truly supernatural, a regenerate heart made new with God indwelling power to live and work-out this great salvation!

A genuine belief in Jesus, (God in human flesh, his sacrificial death for my sins, his burial and glorious resurrection) aligns with John the Baptist’s words to those coming out to be baptized.  “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.”[7] Peter said, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds, you have been healed.”[8]  Moreover, “…since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.  As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.”[9]  Suffering is inherent in this life!  It has been said that our suffering is the call of God to humbly surrender all to Jesus.  In light of the cross, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God you will not despise.”[10]   One author wrote, “The cross is the place where all the wounds of sin are healed.  If you suffer from emotional problems−guilt, anxiety, depression, anger, or whatever−there is healing in the cross of Christ.  If you are going through tragedy or suffering, there is comfort in abundance as you contemplate the sufferings of the spotless Savior on your behalf.”[11]

Beloved, enjoy Jesus always, especially during this Christmas season.  Jesus encouraged the disciples just before he ascended back to the Father.  He said, “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses…”[12]  May our gracious God empower you daily to be a witness to those needing the light of Christ.  If you are uncertain about your witness, cry out to God in faith and he will empower you too!

We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right
What could be too great a cost
For sharing life with one who’s lost?

Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear
They must hear the words of life
Only we can share
