Friday Morning Prayer:)… August 6, 2020

August 6, 2020 - 7 minutes read

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are![1]

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”[2]

Is it the same message or theme week after week, day after day?  Do you hear the same call, prompt, encouragement, appeal?  Yes, I agree with my brother who recognized and pointed out the recurring theme not only in my writings but in the epistles or letters written by the apostle Paul: Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, etc.  His observations were not critical, but comforting and realized as necessary for his growth and maturity in relationship with Jesus.  It takes a lifetime of recurrence, repetition, diligent pursuit of biblical truth, and supernatural power to effectively integrate, live, and work-out this great salvation.

The call of God is significant life-changing and the recurring themes: love, joy, peace, repentance, sin, forgiveness, the power of God indwelling and manifest, abundant grace, the cross, faith, your regenerate heart in Christ, hope, heaven, hell, suffering, encouragement, perseverance, humility, mercy, etc., are central biblical themes to be known, necessarily repeated in Scripture and overflowed through you and me as the Spirit leads us to speak the word of God with humble boldness.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?  Does God care?  I need to be reminded that he does.  Hear the recurring and constant truth—God protects his own and is constant in his care.  You are his through Jesus; the cross is the bridge, his blood shed for your sins and mine allows supernatural realization!  ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.’  You are in Christ and Christ is in you!  The call is to hold on!  “Come behold the wondrous mystery in the dawning of the King He the theme of heaven’s praises Robed in frail humanity in our longing in our darkness Now the light of life has come Look to Christ…”[3]

Do I linger in my anxious thoughts?  Yes.  How long?  Do I think I can work this out?  Do I really pray with persistence?  I know and experience, you probably do too, my anxious thoughts do not get completely resolved until I spend time, that genuine heartfelt, “needing help” pursuing encouragement and that subjective relief through supernatural engagement with God in prayer.  My Father and yours, of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles…[4] He gives grace and a new perspective.

Truly, “Tell me the old, old, story of unseen things above, Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love….”[5]  Old, yet ever new!  Your life pursuits, thoughts, burdens take on balanced perspective with a less intense urgency, yet urgent nonetheless, but at the throne of grace you are empowered, controlled and prompted to pursue, manage well, wisely with supernatural love and joy as the Spirit leads in peace—a subjective feeling that says, it is okay, I got you and never will I leave you nor forsake you.[6]  Rest, while you work out this great salvation in my strength.[7]

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
