Friday Morning Prayer:)… August 13, 2021

August 13, 2021 - 5 minutes read

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!

Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.

Dark is the stain that we cannot hide;
What can we do to wash it away?
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,
Brighter than snow you may be today.[1]

But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.  Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.[2]

The before and the after, the old and the new, the wicked and the righteous.  The contrast between my life, and yours, before and after saving grace was granted by our merciful God.   God’s mercy stirred my wicked heart to recognize my sin; his mercy prompted Holy Spirit conviction with a necessary turn from selfishness, pride, sinful ways to the Redeemer.  Our hope is in Jesus—Jesus crucified for my sin and the sin of every genuine believer.  In Christ, we are called to take up our cross and follow in the steps of Jesus.  This walk, our supernatural journey, is a constant pursuit full of struggles, victories, and failures as we grow in grace.  Beloved, be ye encouraged, “…count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”[3]  Moreover, “…let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.”  In the midst of it all, God is our refuge where we are glad—his comfort, his strengthening, his power indwelling, Jesus helps us sing for joy!  Indeed!  Know with confidence, you are one of “those” who love God, because he first loved you, chosen by saving grace to rejoice in him.  Amazing grace!

In contrast to a once wicked life, hostile to God, an unrepentant heart, now in Christ, your heart and mine comes confidently to the throne of grace.  With the Psalmist, we ask our gracious God to give ear, to consider those recurring sighs, and cries for help.   Lord, I know “you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”[4]  Righteous in Christ!  “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”[5]    Believe, and when I falter, please God, help me overcome my unbelief.  Sister/brother, I absolutely rejoice as you truly believe and your new life in Christ, and mine, is manifest in every phase of life, day to day, hour to hour, moment to moment.  I need Thee every hour.

“But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”[6]

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?
