Friday Morning Prayer:)… August 13, 2020

August 13, 2020 - 8 minutes read

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.[1]

“…Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”[2]

You know those days when the good news (gospel) delivered just stirs your heart and the tears of thankfulness, joy, and that heightened realization of God’s glory just feels good, comforting, and empowering!  “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”[3] Of course, God’s glory many times brings tears of conviction; the Spirit causes my distracted, rebellious, self-centered heart to recognize these sinful tendencies and repent, confess, and humbly pursue God.  Shepherd, and our brother in Christ, Mark @ Emmanuel, brought the good news to a group of us this mid-week.[4]  God is glorified through the meeting of the saints (genuine believers) as we overflow supernatural love and encourage one another to persist in doing good, seek glory, honor, and immortality.[5]

What is the glory of God?  A person truly cares about the answer, realizes, and experiences this supernatural truth only through knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Otherwise, without Christ, and the appropriation of his shed blood to cleanse inherent and willful sin, there is a spiritual blindness that is fueled by godlessness, wickedness, stubbornness, and an unrepentant heart that refuses to glorify God.  To define the glory of God is beyond my scope, but others have given helpful thoughtful insights.[6]  The key is to know it through Jesus and to embrace it, enjoy it, and overflow with it by God’s strength and real presence.  A supernatural reality!  The truly regenerate heart seeks to glorify God with his or her new life in Christ by the supernatural power of God, the indwelling Holy Spirit.   The psalmist, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.”[7]  So, we see, if we have eyes to see, the heavens declare the glory of God.  Moreover, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made…”[8]

In Christ, we see God’s glory and join in!  In other words, you were created for fellowship with our Father, to run to, rely on, and enjoy Christ and Spirit power—to the glory of our triune God!  “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”[9] Beloved, I pray you are excited about your life in Christ!  You and me and every growing, maturing believer has been given divine perspective that anticipates and overflows a blessed assurance, a certainty of resurrection and glorification at the end of time according to this temporal life.  Furthermore, today is, and every day is a pursuit of this realized truth!  Your risen life and mine from spiritual death to new life in Christ as we participate with him in glory.[10]   We see the glory of God in creation and we experience the glory of God in salvation, even as we are saved, being saved, and going to be saved to God’s glory!

Be ye encouraged to fight the good fight of faith!  Submit to God, resist the Devil and he will flee from you.[11]  I know the god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.[12]  We pray for the mercy of God to open blind eyes.  Moreover, we are not unaware of the Devil’s schemes; he tries to blind, at least blur and distort at every turn through circumstances, stirring your emotions and mine: anxieties, bitterness, hateful ways, thoughts, worldly pursuits, pleasures, sexual sins, or anything that defies the glory of God in and through our lives.  No! The glory of God is pursued and manifested in holiness; oh, help Lord, develop, develop, develop, and maintain that supernatural longing to experience and be set apart in Christ Jesus!  Truly, our empowered and necessary motivating hope!

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
