Friday Morning Prayer:) April 30, 2020

April 30, 2020 - 8 minutes read

I sought the Lord, and afterward I knew
he moved my soul to seek him, seeking me;
it was not I that found, O Savior true;
no, I was found, was found of thee.
It was not I that found, O Savior true;
no, I was found, was found of thee.

Thou didst reach forth thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank not on the storm-vexed sea;
’twas not so much that I on thee took hold,
as thou, dear Lord, on me, on me.
‘Twas not so much that I on thee took hold,
as thou, dear Lord, on me, on me.[1]

“Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.  Let me not be put to shame, O Lord [Yahweh] for I have cried out to you;”[2]

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are![3]  The Apostle John encourages us to continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed.  Beloved, to continue in him with confidence is to understand and marvel at the wonder of God’s redemptive love and gracious intervention on your behalf.   “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”[4]  The core of the gospel is God’s love for you and me demonstrated by the life, sacrificial death, and glorious resurrection of Jesus!  “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.  Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become the children of God—children not born of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”[5]It is essential to understand gospel truth and work-out this great salvation we share.  What do I do when the zeal for the Lord is not there?  I remind myself of the glorious nature of what I have received and I cry out with genuine heartfelt belief.  Like the psalmist, “O Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.”  We all struggle as we battle and fight the good fight of faith!  The joy of the emotional highs and the burdensome weight of the lows are reflected in the psalmist.  “When I felt secure, I said, ‘I will never be shaken.’ O Lord, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.”[6]  He kept on pursuing!  And, God was, is, and always will be faithful!  God knows our weak frame; hence we are reassured by and necessarily depend on God as our strength in and through every circumstance and event his sovereign hand orchestrates.

What about those times God seemingly hides his face?  A brother told me this week, “I wrestled in prayer.”  Yes!  “I sought the Lord—he answered me!” Lord I need a fresh touch, empower me to hear your voice to truly marvel as you illuminate your word to my heart, mind, soul.  Brother Jay over at Calvary does college group via Zoom.  I was passing by as my son was participating.  I heard Jay ask: “Are you hearing God speak to you?”  An “examine myself” question!  Is the Spirit of Jesus directing my life?  My heart was thrilled!  Real supernatural questions to keep the fire burning! “Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt.  Test everything.  Hold on the good.  Avoid every kind of evil.”[7]  Run to the Lord!  Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”[8]

Brothers!  Sisters!  My family in Jesus!  Be ye encouraged as you read and study the Bible.  Ask God to reveal, illuminate, and stir your heart with his Spirit through loving relationships, through meditating on the Scriptures, and through earnest prayer in your closet and with like-minded believers in Jesus!  “I need Thee O I need Thee, Every hour I need Thee.”[9]  Rejoice in knowing that our fellowship is with one another through the love of Jesus and, “…our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ”[10] heightened strengthened and empowered by the Holy Spirit.  Amazing indeed!

I find, I walk, I love; but O the whole
of love is but my answer, Lord, to thee!
For thou wert long beforehand with my soul;
always, always thou lovedst me.
For thou wert long beforehand with my soul;
always, always thou lovedst me.
