Friday Morning Prayer:)… April 20, 2017

April 20, 2017 - 6 minutes read
King of my life, I crown Thee now,
Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary.

Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid,
Tenderly mourned and wept;
Angels in robes of light arrayed
Guarded Thee whilst Thou slept.[1]

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.”[2]

Beloved,

A brother said to me yesterday, “if God is your co-pilot you are in trouble.”  Indeed!  Our gracious God takes the lead, and in humble reverence I ask Lord, ‘Lead me to Calvary.’  May I remember always as our Lord leads, “Christ undertook a battle not rightly his; we share in a triumph not rightly ours.”[3]  Mercy revealed through Calvary.  “King of my life, I crown Thee now, Thine shall the glory be;” Moreover, we are lead through the indwelling Spirit to sing!

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?[4]

What stands out for me in the scriptural passage is “in Christ.”  Through the gospel, the cross, forgiveness of sins, repentance, and glorious salvation for all who genuinely believe!  Filled with awestruck wonder because of the reality of Jesus who was, is, and is to come!  For every Christian a blessed assurance!  Our certain hope!   Daily I long to experience our God “who is,” intimately and choose to pursue Him with confidence as Comforter, Great Encourager, Mighty God, Counselor, Prince of Peace, King of Kings, Abba/Father, even Jealous God who calls us to worship, praise, adore, and honor Him alone.

May our gracious God lead you in triumphal procession today and every day through Jesus our Savior and in the power of the Holy Spirit!  Moreover, may the truth of the gospel help you and me to overcome falsehood in its various forms, especially as we live in Christ, battle seen and unseen forces, and work out this glorious salvation.

I was talking with a fella recently who had difficulty accepting the exclusive nature of the gospel.  In fact, he said what I shared sounded, “cultic.”  I assured him with gentleness and respect that the only answer from a Christian perspective for salvation is Jesus.  The gospel is by nature a salvation message through Christ alone.  We agreed to disagree agreeably.  We are still friends and will likely have further talks about various ideas, philosophies, and yes the gospel.   Of course my unceasing prayer is that he will “Taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him!”[5]

Be encouraged!  Choose to love others!   Humble in Christ we go!  “For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”[6]  One writer said, “Irrespective of the human response to the gospel, its proclamation delights God’s heart, because it centers on the Son whom he loves.”[7]

Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

Let me like Mary, through the gloom,
Come with a gift to Thee;
Show to me now the empty tomb,
Lead me to Calvary.

May I be willing, Lord, to bear
Daily my cross for Thee;
Even Thy cup of grief to share,
Thou hast borne all for me.
