Persevere In Christ!
March 9, 2010 - 8 minutes readOur Men’s home has been relocated to a much larger home in San Diego. Praise God for His provision in many ways: Thank you brothers at Mt. View Bible Church for the help in moving the entire interior of the house to it’s new location. We are continuing to make the the house a comfortable home. I am thankful to Dr. Mike for helping create and provide privacy for a few of the men. We have built cubical type walls that look very nice.
A donation helped us fund the project. All monetary support designated to Luke’s House is used to enhance the quality of life of the men residing there.
We continue to need financial help to ensure ongoing maintenance for the house vehicle and practical items to ensure cleanliness standards and decent furniture, beds, etc., A designated driver volunteers, but we need cash flow for gas and ongoing maintenance for our generally reliable 95 Saturn.
We are praying for more volunteers to get involved in serving the men at Luke’s House. May God bring mature Christians to offer Bible studies, monthly group dinners, etc., Most important is the expression of love in practical ways that reflects our God.
My prayer is that you are persevering in Christ whereever He is working through your life. Although I haven’t had a chance to continue in our Hebrews Study, the demands of this life are many lately, we will be back into this excellent book (chapter 10) before too long.
Practically persevering is only possible as we get into God’s Word and God’s Word gets into us! I have been reading and enjoying II Samuel with my son Luke. And, the gospel according to Mark with my wife Heidi. The following are just samples of the richness of God’s living Word.
David’s prayer to God as David is told that his throne will last forever: v. 22-29
22 “How great you are, O Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. 23 And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? 24 You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, O LORD, have become their God. 25 “And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, 26 so that your name will be great forever. Then men will say, ‘The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!’ And the house of your servant David will be established before you.
27 “O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you.’ So your servant has found courage to offer you this prayer. 28 O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. 29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”
Jesus is the fulfillment through the family of David…
Luke 1:32 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
Today in Mark 4:1-20 The Parable of the Sower: Read, reflect and ask yourself where do you stand in light of Jesus’ powerful teaching?
1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3″Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.”
9Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that,
” ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'[a]”
13Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”
As you spend time in prayer and Bible study: pray for Compassionate MinistriesPPS, that we would have God’s wisdom to serve others and pursue the goals only God has prepared in advance for us to accomplish.
Persevere!
