October 29, 2015 - 5 minutes readI need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.[1]
“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”[2]
Lord I need You, we cry! Our gracious God watches over us, He alone is our source of help when we face trials of many forms, shapes, and sizes. Most days bring challenging situations, sources of stress, anxiety… and the feeling of inadequacy. I need daily assurance… so do YOU… I do not walk alone. Our journey through this life is in the sovereign hand of God, even our trials.
Take heart my friend, the Lord is with us
As He has been all the days of our lives
Our assurance every morning
Our defender in the night[3]
Beloved! Be encouraged this day! Take heart in knowing our God, “Careth for me.” The song of old proclaims, “God, who made the grass, The flow’r, the fruit, the tree, The day and night to pass, He cares for me.” YES! YES! “God, who made all things, On earth, in air, in sea, Who if I lean on Him, Will care for me.”[4]
My prayer is that your life is reflecting the reality of God’s presence! “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds In Christ Jesus.”[5] The Apostle Paul reminds us to rejoice always, to be gentle with folks, and know the Lord is near. Instead of anxiety over all the troubles in this life, we pray and petition with thanksgiving, laying our requests before our holy, powerful, mighty God! He is compassionate, comforting, cares about all my struggles, yours too!
Your life, my life is not our own at all, but it is Christ indwelling forming and shaping, allowing as He determines. When our burdens become too great, and they do, our gracious God is forever present! Many times His presence is through the encouraging word, embrace, silent presence, through Spirit filled brothers and sisters in our midst. Indeed, we are called, empowered to love, grieve, mourn, rejoice, with each other. I need you! You need me! This too according to God’s design.
“For in Christ Jesus…. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”[6] You are a new creation In Christ![7] “…what counts is a new creation.”[8]
Lord, empower us, give us your heart to hold up and help one another In God’s love, In God’s grace!
I need Thee every hour,
Stay Thou near by;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.

In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
I need Thee every hour,
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.

Thou blessed Son.
