He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful foll’wer I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Sometimes ’mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
By waters still, o’er troubled sea,
Still ’tis His hand that leadeth me.[1]

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”[2]

Beloved in Jesus!

I just “so happened” to open one of the past reflections from nearly a year ago. Amazing! I was talking with a brother last night, working through some struggles, loving one another as we encouraged and prayed for strength to persevere through the trials of this life. I prayed he would experience the joy of his salvation in Jesus and not give up! Later, after our time praying, engaging, loving one another, I opened the following: truly gospel truth and encouragement for you, me, and my faithful brother last night!

“I pray the joy of the Lord is overflowing through you! Yes! In every context, every circumstance, trial, disappointment, our struggles common to this life…. Our God indwelling is greater!

We endure In Christ knowing that trials of many kinds, the testing of our faith develops perseverance.[3] “Perseverance” has a work to do, and this can be accomplished only by persistence in trials. We pray and depend on our holy God to sustain us… our living faith doesn’t falter or give up!”[4]

The truth from a year ago is still true today! Our God indwelling is greater than the various struggles we face in this life. We persevere because of God’s sovereign grace! We pray and depend on our holy, holy, holy God! He will and does sustain us every day!

We prayed that each of us would function in the realm, the church especially, where God has placed us, truly trust and obey according to our God given gifts. Sister/brother, I do pray you are encouraged by gospel truth. Truth expressed in different ways, even the same repetitive words that never grow old. Moreover, may the manifestation of your God given gifts, especially in the church body, bring joy and supernatural satisfaction that pursuits in this world will not attain.

“God had to gut me to heal my heart.” Words of a struggling brother, yet action of a loving God. Truly sensed the Holy Spirit moving Sunday at church. Again, gospel truth flowing to encourage the body of Christ! How great thou art, our God! Discipline due to great love, affliction out of love to form and shape us to be like our holy God. A supernatural love for others instilled by our loving gracious God. A love that prompts us to pray and earnestly cry out for others during times of struggle and affliction as well as when all is smooth and flowing, always in Jesus.

We need to be reminded of God’s sovereign love, that daily, hence “new every morning,” God has compassion for us and wants, even yearns for fellowship, intimate fellowship always. In my sinfulness, flesh, the reality of depravity fueling those thoughts, even feelings of unworthiness to approach our holy, holy, holy, God! No! Flee, taking every thought captive and run to gospel truth! The cross! Through Jesus I am worthy, you too, longing for the embrace, comfort from the God of all comfort, thereby truly becoming holy!

Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since ’tis my God that leadeth me.

And when my task on earth is done,
When by Thy grace the vict’ry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Since God through Jordan leadeth me.

Fridays mornings are a joy! My heart overflows when I get to experience brothers and love our God together. The process is fairly established. However, we strive to stay sensitive to the leading hand of Jesus at every meeting. Diverse brothers, different gifts, attending various fellowships where the gospel is preached!

An essential is our devotion to gospel truth, the reality of Jesus in our midst, and reliance on the Holy Spirit to guide our process. Even now, I pray for every heart to unite at the cross where each of us with intentional humility bring our praise, worship, and varied requests as the Spirit leads. Many times silence we must embrace, always mindful of God indwelling, words of the flesh few. O blessed thought, He leadeth.
