Friday Morning Prayer:)… October 13, 2016

October 13, 2016 - 6 minutes read

I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s tableland,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.[1]

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.[2]
_____________

Indeed! Onward bound, striving in His strength to higher ground! Nearer my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee we prayerfully sing. Sister/Brother, how often we need to be encouraged as we endure through this life. Our God strengthens and increases power so we can reiterate, “Do you not know? Have you not heard” how marvelous, “…how wonderful and my song shall ever be, how marvelous, how wonderful is my Savior’s love for me.”[3] As the God of all comfort brought a message of divine comfort, reassurance, and hope for the exiles of Yahweh. So too, through Jesus we are continuously being comforted, encouraged, and very much hopeful (absolutely certain) that our ever present God calls us to higher ground.

This call is one of wholehearted action, especially as we are strengthened and empowered to comfort others, pray, and proclaim the “…glorious riches of this mystery, “which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”[4] Absolutely! I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene!

Throughout the Scripture we are called to be persistent in prayer, to be strong in Christ, watchful and thankful. I ask for your prayers and I pray for you. Much prayer for your needs my needs, struggles, strength to persevere and overcome difficulties inherent in this world. Moreover, Paul asked for prayer, “…that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ… Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.”[5]

Yes! May I constantly pray for opportunities to share the gospel! There is no greater purpose than redemption through the cross of Christ. As I love and care about others, may I heed the call to wrestle in prayer. O Lord, the lost, those spiritually dead without Jesus, have mercy, even through your servants Lord. Just as necessary is prayer for my family in Christ. Epaphras, a servant with Paul, a Colossian and the founder of the Colosse church is mentioned as one who wrestled in prayer for the believers there. He prayed for them to “stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. Moreover, he was certainly aware of the potential wavering from the gospel under the influence of the heretical teaching at Colosse.

I pray, as you read this brief reflection, the supernatural desire to be conformed to the image of Christ is ever increasing in your heart. May I and you too, be extreme in this pursuit, a constant crying out to God. Be encouraged, especially as you hold on to Jesus, and know He always holds onto you. Higher ground we pursue! In His strength!

I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
