Friday Morning Prayer:). June 24, 2015
June 24, 2015 - 4 minutes read’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more![1]
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”[2]
Beloved In Christ,
This morning I read an article referencing a brother struggling through depression; “I don’t see the point in prayer because I feel like he doesn’t answer.” I’d venture to say that many believers have struggled with “The hiddenness of God.” I am certain this struggle varies in degree and duration for most sisters and brothers In Christ. The author considered this “empirical silence of God…normative for the Christian life.”[3]
There was no doubt portrayed in the truth that God moves through our lives as regenerated, transformed believers in Jesus. In fact, God is in all our circumstances, difficulties, victories, struggles…molding us into the image of our Lord Jesus.
My prayer daily, “Lord empower me to listen and hear better.” Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.”[4] Someone wrote,
“The inward vision thus clarified, and the whole inner man in sympathy with God, each looks upon the other with complacency and joy, and we are ‘changed into the same image from glory to glory.’ ”
My God given inclination is to encourage and battle against lingering depression. My beloved mother struggled with bouts of depression during our early years. Therein was our gracious God! Molding and shaping my life to love those struggling through this life.
I pray YOU have experienced God’s initiative…our God is merciful and offers abundant grace through all our trials and tribulations. You, me, US In Christ… are the evidence of God’s existence and tender voice to those around us, especially depressed brothers and sisters who need love and encouragement.
Even “the peace of God which passeth all understanding”—the peace-receivers become transformed into peace diffusers. God is thus seen reflected in them; and by the family likeness these peacemakers are recognized as the children of God.
Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
