Friday Morning Prayer:). January 28, 2016
January 28, 2016 - 6 minutes readIf you will only let God guide you,
And hope in Him through all your ways,
Whatever comes, He’ll stand beside you,
To bear you through the evil days;
Who trusts in God’s unchanging love
Builds on the Rock that cannot move.[1]
Only be still, and wait His leisure
In cheerful hope, with heart content
To take whatever the Father’s pleasure
And all discerning love have sent;
Nor doubt our inmost wants are known
To Him Who chose us for His own.
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one wo has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”[2]
Georg Neumark experienced pain, loss, suffering, and disappointment—the hurts inherent with this life. It appears he was a man of prayer who trusted God through the darkest of times.[3] As he received mercy and grace during his time of need, he wrote the hymn, “If you will only let God guide you.” An encouraging set of words written long ago, yet so applicable for us today. So too the “…word of God… living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”[4]
Beloved, I pray you are enjoying our God, the Savior of the world through Jesus, forever present through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Christ, through faith we receive mercy and abundant grace to endure the trials of this life. He loves you far greater than I can express. Every moment of everyday, “Whatever comes, He’ll stand beside you…” A supernatural love revealed through the Scripture, the living word even penetrating my inmost being, the totality and depth of our being before our holy God. Powerful! Unsettling! Motivating!
My unsettling reaction is one of recognition that I struggle and fail before our holy God daily. The light of Scripture, intimacy with our God, the convicting power of the Holy Spirit serves to expose my sin. God is holy! I am not! I am in process, so are you! From glory to glory we pursue our holy God, especially as He pursues us. Yes! Thankful! The power of the gospel is motivating! We are saved by grace and empowered to overcome the flesh! In Christ, you and I are in right standing before our holy God. Therefore, we sing all the more, even confessing our sins and crying out for supernatural strength to resist evil and desire to sin no more.
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Meeting with a brother this week he made a reference to being “desperate for God.” This is a good, healthy, even necessary place to be as we live through this life. I encourage you! Seek God through His living Word… hunger to know, sense, experience intimacy with God, you will be fulfilled. Pray without ceasing! God, through His indwelling power calls us to listen, genuinely care, pray for, make contact with, and encourage others, especially those in the family of God! :).
Sing, pray, and swerve not from His ways,
But do your part in conscience true;
Trust His rich promises of grace,
So shall they be fulfilled in you;
God hears the call of those in need,
The souls that trust in Him indeed.
