Friday Morning Prayer:). August 6, 2015
August 6, 2015 - 6 minutes readFairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown.[1]
“Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened, but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!”[2]
Faithful Brothers and Sisters In Christ,
I pray you have had many joyful songs in your heart this week… you know those many and precious moments where you can’t help but sing… Jesus You’re fairer
Jesus You’re purer… You make the woeful heart to sing…Thee will I cherish
Thee will I honor …Thou my soul’s glory joy and crown![3] David, in writing Psalm 65 knew where songs of joy originated: “Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy.”[4]
If I could just get out of the way… a daily surrender to God’s lead, His love, empowering me…and you too… to live a selfless life, humble, devoted to holiness, a servant attitude every day. Our high and holy calling is clearly articulated in Scripture. “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus…[He] made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant…”[5] “Grace teaches us that as we lose ourselves in the overwhelming greatness of God’s love, humility before Him is caught up in everlasting blessedness and worship.”[6]
Be encouraged! We are not left to our own devices! “On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”[7] Yes! We pray without ceasing for supernatural strength, nurture that longing for our indwelling God to be manifest in all we do.
In pursuing secret prayer, I find myself battling against the thoughts of the day… asking God to help me lay aside all distractions…events of the week, interpersonal, financial, family… Lord, I want to hear You! You too? In the morning, during the day, and at night… we walk and pray, drive our cars, ride the bus, ride a bike, at home, at work, shopping, etc.,
Always, we are aware of God’s presence and cry out! Moreover, we listen and look for, even expect opportunities to love on someone, tell them what great things God has done, and pray God’s abundant grace and blessings to overflow in their lives…. Not just once! Many times over! :). “Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me….” [!].
May our gracious God, who redeemed you through the blood of Jesus… fill you with awe at His glorious, intimate, renewing, empowering presence every day! Through the indwelling of our Beautiful Savior, we be servants of all!
Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.
Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling starry host;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heav’n can boast.
All fairest beauty, heavenly and earthly,
Wondrously, Jesus, is found in Thee;
None can be nearer, fairer or dearer,
Than Thou, my Savior, art to me.
Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine.
