Friday Morning Prayer:). August 12, 2015

“Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.”[2]
Faithful In Christ,
It has been written that the core of our relationship to God, the secret to blessing, is the humility and nothingness that leaves God free to be All.[3] Peter, inspired by God, writes “…clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”[4]
I recently re-read Andrew Murray’s little book titled “Humility” which is referenced below. I strongly encourage YOU, brother/sister to read through this little book. It is a short/easy read. However, the application and truly living out this humble life is difficult! Our inherited tendency is to “be” just the opposite. In my estimation it is easier to succumb to our natural tendency, pride. However, as we mature in our shared faith, much prayer, and practice… we long for Jesus… incarnate humble… to live and manifest Himself through our surrendered lives.
Do I live as totally dependent on God? Do I understand the life of Christ as one of complete surrender to the will of God? He became nothing so God the Father could be everything through Him. This idea, the reality of complete surrender, a supernatural truth that we, YOU, me… In Christ… experience, pursue, practice daily! I want to understand better, experience more, especially as the years go by, what it means, how it looks, what it feels like to be humble like Jesus. “And let us believe that what Jesus shows, He also gives. What He is, He can impart. As the meek and lowly One, He will come in and live in the longing heart.”[5]
Do I view every difficult situation as an opportunity to grow? A brother contacted me today to say his move to a new area has been most difficult. He is experiencing rejection from neighbors and doing what he can to avoid interpersonal drama. In his reflection, he wrote, “But I had to realize that I need to pray for them too! …I just forgive and keep praying for them. It’s really hard sometimes. I have to keep the faith and hope. That way God [will] keep me stronger in His unconditional love. Amen.” Yes brother! I pray too.
And, I encourage my brother, myself, and YOU to pursue the path of humility… it is very hard! Only possible with complete surrender… my obedience to take up my cross, intentionally deny my own selfish interests daily, love others, be a servant of all… then trust more and more our gracious God to empower and live through me… YOU too! We need each other all the time: prayer, encouragement, love, serve….
As you consider reading Andrew Murray’s little book, I’d very much enjoy hearing about your experience, reactions, greater recognition, even hunger for the high calling to a humble life In Christ.
