Friday Morning Prayer:)… September 14, 2017

September 14, 2017 - 7 minutes read
I hear the Savior say,
“Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.”
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
For nothing good have I
Whereby Thy grace to claim;
I’ll wash my garments white
In the blood of Calv’ry’s Lamb.
And now complete in Him,
My robe, His righteousness,
Close sheltered ’neath His side,
I am divinely blest.[1]
Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.  I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”[2]
Most Beloved in Jesus!
How is it with your soul?  “Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy.”[3]  You know those bitter sorrows and even joys that are so personal and unique that others cannot fully share them.  However, our gracious God knows everything, and desires to comfort through our struggles, aches, emotional hurts, and share our joys.  Where ever you are in this journey, God through Christ cares.  Jesus, our refuge, and ongoing strength!  Lord, I need Thee, O I need Thee every moment of every hour!  With the psalmist, pray: ‘Keep me safe, O God for in you I take refuge.’ “Hear, O Lord, my righteous plea; listen to my cry.  Give ear to my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.”[4]  Indeed!  ‘…apart from you I have no good thing.’
It is impossible for me to function well, efficiently, and spiritually pleasing to God apart from intimacy with God.  I have to continue to work out my salvation with fear and trembling!  However, I am not alone!  Beloved, nor are you!  “…it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”[5]   As I co-participate in this Christ life, I ask myself, how has my relationship with God developed?  Do I have that intimacy on a consistent basis?  How much over the years have I matured?  Is my soul deeply connected to God?  Nothing else really matters by comparison.  The process of pursuing God, even as he pursues us, continues!
I can boast in Jesus!  The love of God indwelling has prevailed in many circumstances and situations that could have been harmful this week.  You know!  The power of God to maintain self-control, to restrain a harsh word, to turn the other cheek.  More positively, to actively serve others, to say a kind word, to comfort through difficulty, to apologize for allowing the flesh to react.  Our higher calling in this life is to reflect genuine, life transforming love!  “Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”[6]
The world system and all the distractions tend to cloud my judgment!  The devil wants our judgment to be clouded!  Therefore, my constant prayer, especially as the clouds form, ‘Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.’  Moreover, humble before our gracious God!  “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and he will come near to you….”[7]  Everyday pride wants to prevail!  No!  In every context and every interpersonal engagement, God help me to choose to be humble through the power of the Spirit!  Yes! “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”[8]  Let’s hear the Savior say all the time, “Thy strength indeed is small; child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all.”
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy pow’r, and Thine alone,
Can change the *leper’s spots [*leopard’s]
And melt the heart of stone.
When from my dying bed
My ransomed soul shall rise,
“Jesus died my soul to save,”
Shall rend the vaulted skies.
And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete,
I’ll lay my trophies down,
All down at Jesus’ feet.
