Friday Morning Prayer:). October 8, 2015

October 8, 2015 - 5 minutes read

’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more![1]

“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ ” Psalm 91:2

Do I trust our gracious God through everything every day? Honestly there are times when peace is forfeited and I unnecessarily bear needless pain…. I fail to carry everything to God in prayer. As the old hymn asks: Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?[2]

Yes! James reminds us that there are many things, “…trials of many kinds…” that put us to the test, both from within, inner moral tests, and without, persecution. How should I respond?

The basis of our response stems from our “In Christ” status. Through the cross, the blood of Jesus shed for my sins cleanses, restores, regenerates, transforms… I am a new creation In Christ! You too! Born from above, a second supernatural birth that grows, matures, loves, and continually seeks our God through the Lord Jesus…in the power of the Holy Spirit! Yes!

Therefore, brother/sister be encouraged! There is no friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share. Indeed, Jesus knows our every weakness…. He is our refuge, our fortress, YOUR God, MY God [!]… Who I am learning to trust even more, in EVERYTHING! :).

So, “Consider it pure joy…whenever you face trials of many kinds…” My trials, your trials are capable of developing “perseverance.” Will my faith persevere under trial? Genuine regenerating, transforming, supernatural faith joyfully embraces testing, trials of many colors, varied, “of many kinds” because perseverance develops. In Christ, we long to grow in grace! “It is in struggling against difficulty and opposition that spiritual stamina is developed.”[3]

Beloved, we persist through our trials! Grace to cry out daily, “as You determine most Holy God, mature me Lord, may I be complete In Christ, not lacking anything!” Humbly, with desperation for intimacy with God, supernatural hunger, and unquenchable thirst… we take it to the Lord in prayer.

Sing! “All to Jesus I surrender; All to Him I freely give;I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.” [4]

Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
