Friday Morning Prayer:)… November 09, 2017

November 9, 2017 - 7 minutes read
As I walk, Lord, Through the valley,
Hold my hand, Hold my trembling hand.
If I stumble by the wayside,
In Your strength help me stand.

The sparks fly upward while the wind blows
Like a spirit, Lost upon the sea.
I am torn, Lord, And born to trouble.
I am blind and I am weak.

Hear me calling, Great Redeemer,
At the foot of Your dark cross
Where You suffered for the sinner,
Bleeding, Dying, For the lost.

Go before me through the valley,
Speak to me, For I know Your voice.
Lead me homeward, Gentle Shepherd,
God of Love, God of Grace.[1]

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”[2]
_____________

In the midst of it all, we proclaim with the psalmist, “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”[3]  I do not completely understand the prevailing evil.  The deliberate murder of children, teens, and elderly, even where the saints gather for worship and cry out to our gracious God.  O Lord, persecution and the death of Christians around the world is overwhelming.

I know “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”[4]  It hurts!  It is hard to watch the coverage.  Like the psalmist, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ are feeling the pain behind the words, “When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted.”[5]  Yes, sin and acts of evil manifest through the unregenerate heart continues, the god of this age will continue to use whatever means necessary to lie, kill, and destroy.

Through the prayers of many God moves as he determines.  My overwhelmed state is overshadowed by a humble cry, ‘Hear me calling, Great Redeemer, at the foot of your dark cross where you suffered for the sinner, bleeding, dying, for the lost.  In the midst of suffering the psalmist reminds us, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.”[6]

Beloved, let’s earnestly pray together before the throne of grace.  Our Creator is sovereign, the world and everything in it belong to him!  We, “a new creation” in Christ are called to pray.  You need God’s strength, I do too!  Therefore, we strain and stretch fervently in prayer to experience our gracious God!  His comfort, his answers, his amazing grace!  May the truth of Scripture become very evident as “…suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”[7]  “And hope does not disappoint us because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”[8]

As we come along side those suffering, asking for abundant grace and dynamic faith to carry one another’s burdens, lean on each other with supernatural love, pray through evil, and for the evil doers, stand in Christ through the inherent storms of this life, and grieve with those who grieve, to God be the glory!  May the Scripture be our guide and the Holy Spirit be our unending power!

“O Lord, I call to you; come quickly to me.  Hear my voice when I call to you.  May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.”[9]

Hear me calling, Great Redeemer,
At the foot of Your dark cross
Where You suffered for the sinner,
Bleeding, Dying, For the lost.

Go before me through the valley,
Speak to me, For I know Your voice.
Lead me homeward, Gentle Shepherd,
God of Love, God of Grace.[10]
