Friday Morning Prayer:)… January 11, 2018

January 18, 2018 - 6 minutes read
Come, Thou Almighty King,
Help us Thy Name to sing, help us to praise!
Father all glorious, o’er all victorious,
Come and reign over us, Ancient of Days!
Jesus, our Lord, arise,
Scatter our enemies, and make them fall;
Let Thine almighty aid our sure defense be made,
Souls on Thee be stayed; Lord, hear our call.
Come, Thou incarnate Word,
Gird on Thy mighty sword, our prayer attend!
Come, and Thy people bless, and give Thy Word success,
Spirit of holiness, on us descend!
“Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”[1]
We sing, I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene and recognize, love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.  Alas!  and did my Savior bleed and did my Sov’reign die?  Would he devote that sacred head for such a worm as I?  All for Jesus!  All for Jesus! Looking at the Crucified.  This is my story this is my song praising my Savior all the day long!  Come, Thou Almighty King, help us Thy name to sing.
Indeed, our God is amazing!  In awe and reverence, we pursue sacred, yet only through the blood of the Lamb.  Our God is holy, holy, holy.  He is transcendent, separate, different, and higher than anyone or anything in his creation.   Jesus is the image of the invisible God and was before all things, and in him, all things hold together.[2]  “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”[3]  Without Jesus you and I were alienated from God and enemies before a holy God because of sin and evil behaviors.  And, in our own strength and sinful devices, did not care.
In Christ, his sovereign grace through faith alone, our most holy God reconciled us to be holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.  Beloved, stand, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.[4]  Let’s be encouraged to heed the inspired words of Peter, “…prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.”[5]
As God is holy, separate, different, we too are called to be holy.  “He put a song in my heart that keeps ringing, it was Jesus who made me this way!”[6]  My life now touched by God is no longer common or profane, but holy!  This is an ongoing pursuit that has highs and lows, but we long for the highs of holiness.  As one genuinely in Christ, you know the supernatural, the extraordinary, the sacred, the touch of God upon your life is continually transforming you into the image of our Savior Jesus.  That is exciting!
The experience we have of the holy is mysterious, supernatural, and powerful!  It does provoke a holy fear.  A necessary reverence that God is holy and I am really not.  I am relying on the grace of God to help me.  I trust my gracious God to empower and help me overcome and avoid the sin that is so prevalent.   I pray as I grow up in my salvation, you too, that we are more and more aware of our ever-present holy God and our call to be holy as he is holy.   The already and not yet; in the midst of our strengths and obvious weaknesses we help each other through genuine love, prayer, and Holy Spirit power!
Come, holy Comforter,
Thy sacred witness bear in this glad hour;
Thou Who almighty art, now rule in every heart,
And ne’er from us depart, Spirit of pow’r!
To Thee, great One in Three,
Eternal praises be, hence, evermore;
Thy sov’reign majesty may we in glory see,
And to eternity love and adore!
