Friday Morning Prayer:)… January 04, 2018

January 4, 2018 - 8 minutes read
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art![1]

“Shout with joy to God, all the earth!  Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Say to God, ‘How awesome are your deeds!….’ “[2]

I pray you are having those necessary times to sing praises and worship our God in every circumstance and context.  Our God indwelling helps us to know him better, more intimately, with heartfelt passion and a keen mind to understand, “How great Thou art!”  There is within my heart a melody for by his hand he leadeth me.  Because he lives I can face tomorrow!  Holy, Holy, Holy, merciful and mighty, our God in three persons, blessed Trinity.  Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee, How great Thou art!

We worship and exalt our God because sovereign grace called us to himself.  The supernatural essence of the Christian life is to genuinely love God with all our might.  An ever-increasing love expressed with all of my heart, soul, my mind, and with all my strength.  Moreover, in Christ, there is a genuine love for others.   The greatest commands being fulfilled through a regenerate heart and Spirit-filled life.  God orchestrated my salvation because he is merciful.  The gift of faith freely given to genuinely experience Jesus as redeemer and worship him in Spirit and truth.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life for every Christian.  We have been given new birth and are indwelt by God.  “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”[3]  We know that God indwells and the third person of the blessed Trinity, “…will be in you….”  Moreover, Jesus also said, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you…. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”[4]  Where the Spirit of Christ leads we desire to follow!   Encouraging truth!

God in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit, co-equal, co-eternal, distinct, but never separate.  A supernatural truth. Our God is one.  Scripture teaches three persons called God, yet we worship one God.  A powerful truth that is foundational in our Christ life, empowering us to be in awe of gospel truth and worship in Spirit.

To worship in Spirit brings passion, joy, and excitement.  Our knowledge of God informs our worship and is an ever-increasing awe for me as I grow in grace.  The Scripture is truth for Christians and as we hide it in our hearts and meditate on it day and night we can’t help but worship God in Spirit and truth.  As I read the Psalmist, or the Proverbs, Jeremiah, Lamentations or the letters of Paul or the synoptic gospels, John, Acts, etc., the entire Bible is gospel truth that helps us truly appreciate and worship our glorious and Mighty God!

Beloved, I truly pray your relationship with God the Father, through Jesus the Son, and in the power of the Holy Spirit is most satisfying, and continually challenging you to grow in grace with an insatiable hunger to understand the depths of gospel truth.  I love the idea and the reality of enjoying our God.  I want to trust him more and not doubt his faithfulness through every circumstance.  In Christ, you do too.  Moreover, in a genuine relationship with one another may supernatural love be evident.  O Lord, help me to encourage consistently!  Help me to receive admonishment gracefully, and to help others grow in grace faithfully.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s might hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”[5]

How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then shall I bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim, “My God, how great Thou art!”
