Friday Morning Prayer:)…Happy Thanksgiving! November 23, 2017

November 24, 2017 - 6 minutes read
Jesus, the very thought of Thee
  With sweetness fills my breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
  And in Thy presence rest.
Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame,
  Nor can the memory find
A sweeter sound than Thy blest Name,
  O Savior of mankind!
O Hope of every contrite heart,
  O Joy of all the meek,
To those who fall, how kind Thou art!
  How good to those who seek!
But what to those who find all this?
  Nor tongue nor pen can show;
The love of Jesus, what it is
  None but His loved ones know.[1]
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”[2]
God is our treasure!  ‘But what to those who find?’  O that supernatural touch of God!  A regenerate heart, a transformed life, the love of Jesus experienced beyond comparison to anything and everything!   God pursues fellowship with you, loves us beyond our finite comprehension, he empowers us to overcome difficult circumstances; Jesus gives peace the world can’t give, and we do experience an ecstatic and overflowing joy because of who he is in us!  All to his glory!  In Christ, and through the faithfulness of our gracious God there is an ever growing love for people, a constant rejoicing, unceasing prayer, and thankfulness.
God changes lives.  A selfish pursuit becomes the servant of others.  An all-consuming love for self is put to death in light of God’s love and redemption through the cross.  Love is patient, kind, not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, and rejoices with the truth!  As far as it depends on me, I want to live at peace with all people.  I desire to bring glory to God through my life.  I ask God for power to effectively love others and to be known as a disciple of Jesus because of manifest love for others.  We no longer regard others from a worldly point of view.  Our God indwelling gives a new perspective!  We have been reconciled to God through the cross.  Help me Lord to be genuinely motivated by your indwelling love and joyfully share gospel truth with others.
We are to be more and more joyful!  Always?  ‘None but His loved ones know.’  ‘Ah, this nor tongue nor pen can show;’  ‘Jesus, the very thought of Thee with sweetness fills my breast; but sweeter far Thy face to see, and in Thy presence rest.’  Yes indeed!  Joyful!  There is power, wonder working power in the blood of the Lamb!  “…in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; … sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, yet possessing everything.”[3]
Prayer.  A necessity.  Our communion with God!  Wow!  In awe, we humbly go before the throne of grace.  A longing, a hunger, a desire for closeness with our heavenly Father.  God knows the heart.  He knows my brokenness.  He is Creator, I am created and continually being molded.  Nothing is hidden.   We experience the power of the gospel through prayer.  How awesome to know and experience communion with our exalted and ever-present Redeemer!  We grow in hope and confidence in him as we intentionally pursue him through prayer.   May we be ever enjoying God through affections of the heart and convictions of our mind according to gospel truth!
We celebrate “Thanksgiving” one day a year.  However, for us in Christ, we are always thankful to God!  His indwelling power directs, comforts, orchestrates as he determines.  We rejoice, we pray, and we give thanks because our God is sovereign over every aspect of our lives.  God walks with me, talks with me, and tells me I am his own!  “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”[4]
O Jesus! light of all below!
  Thou fount of life and fire!
Surpassing all the joys we know,
  And all we can desire.
No other source have we but Thee,
  Soul-thirst to satisfy.
Exhaustless spring! the waters free!
  All other streams are dry.
Jesus, our only Joy be Thou,
  As Thou our Prize wilt be;
Jesus, be Thou our Glory now,
  And through eternity.
